Just tell them it's a 307. That's one of Olds' redeeming features- all the parts are damned near the same! Especially, tinwork....
Not sure what covers these came off. Previous owner said the engine builder threw them on since they were tall enough so the rockers won't hit.....but after pulling the cover off I seen the gasket had somehow ripped around where the bolt holds it down.....and the "cover hold downs" won't work for me either. Not enough lip on 1 side for it to sit flat. And there too long for the bolts on the end which will cause them to over hang. I could cut them slightly shorter so it will somewhat work...and i do have the covers that's on my 455 but the difference between them is that it has bolt holes on every "hump". Current one has only 5 holes total. 455 cover has 10 holes....What valve covers are on the car? I even had the Permadry gaskets leak slightly with the Edelbrock aluminum valve covers after using on 3 different motors. The only way I could get the cheap chrome valve covers to seal was to glue them down with a good bead of Ultra Black RTV.
So Grind down the length and the raised ends so it's flat?Just grind those hold downs where they contact the covers. Some Ultra Black and let it sit overnight in place of a gasket is an option. I used Rocket Racing rubber with steel core valve cover gaskets this last time, a nice gasket.
Thanks, I Will modify them. Sorry for asking questions and dumb ones too. I have a tendency to over think stuff and that seems to make it more difficult. I also sent an email to the company that offers those gasket. I will get them as soon as I know for sure they will work on my 403Grind them here until they fit.

The only difference in Olds valve covers from 67 and up is 5 vs. 10 bolts, BB, SB, they're all the same.I will get them as soon as I know for sure they will work on my 403
