When I got the Monte it came with no keys a drill did the job easy and no damage to any sheet metal.

After that a flathead screwdriver popped it open easily.

Drill the "center circle" out slowly so that the outer circle doesnt twist.

Then use a screw driver or a set of long nose pliers if the tailshaft is still in there and twist

once you get the trunk lock removed what about replacing the door locks and trunk lock so there is only one key to keep track off

Great tip- thanks. Did I mention he is an idiot? He is also a cheap *ss. Thus, there was only 1 key. I will let him deal with that after I get the trunk open.

I just remembered this....

Is it a G-body? Can't you look up under the trunk lid and see if there's the lock retainer rivet you can drill out then pull down the retainer and pop out the entire lock? I dunno. I remember a million years ago my then-new 1986 Monte SS had about 100 miles on it and the then-new wife just got it home with a trunk full of groceries. I was at work, and of course, it didn't have the power trunk option, so when she called, I called the dealership and explained what was going on. She said one of the springs was hanging out of the key hole! They drove to my house and drilled out the retainer rivet and got it out that way. Yay! No melted ice cream all over the trunk mat!

If it's not a G-body, then.....I dunno. Never mind.

It's a '81 Malibu. I'll pass that on to him. Is it possible they made it that easy?

There is a clip held by a rivet that retains the lock on the trunk lid but I just looked at my Monte and the license plate pocket covers any access to to get a drill in there when the decklid is closed and the same goes for my Regal.

The locksmith already said it's too old for him to deal with. So forget doing it the proper way. How would you break in? Gently, of course.

Dude, thats bullshit. the jerk locksmith just dosen't wanna do it. A good friend of mine in Westhampton is a locksmith and I know for a fact it's an easy job. Try another locksmith.
