Defeat trunk lock ?

Begal- that's probably true. He called his local guy and got nowhere. But my local old-timey guy retired years ago and there is no one even close to him in skills by me. Because of that I actually bought the tool kits to install and re-key my home door locks. Being in NYC my house has like 3 or 4 locks/dead-bolts on every outer door but I can open them all with a single key. But even though I have the tools I can't pick a lock to save my life.

Mark, whjat about delaying this job so your cousin will get frustrated and figure out how to get it open it. Sorta like throwing a kid in the pool so he'll learn how to swim

Pull the back seat and sound deadening pad out and hire the most flexible kid in the neighborhood to crawl in the trunk and pop it from the inside?

There is a clip held by a rivet that retains the lock on the trunk lid but I just looked at my Monte and the license plate pocket covers any access to to get a drill in there when the decklid is closed and the same goes for my Regal.
Hmmm. Not good. It was just an idea. Thanks for checking that out. I wasn't there when the dealership fixed the car in the driveway, but that's what they told my wife what they did. She just parroted back to me what they told her. So what they said, what she deciphered, and what they actually did could be 3 different things.

There was a new rivet in there and they brought out a kit and keyed up the new lock with the existing key. I've never looked up in there to actually see what you can see. What they likely did was pop the center of the lock out, open the trunk, drill out the rivet to get the rest of the crap out and set up the new tumbler with the original key, then reinstalled with a new rivet.

I had to go out and actually check after you posted because I thought it might be possible but after closing the trunk lid I could barely get a finger in there a touch the rivet, The Regal I couldn't even feel the rivet because the light is on top instead of the sides like the Monte so who knows since each car is different maybe the Malibu won't have anything in the way.

Thanks, but he has his own personal arsenal. If that was all it took he would have set it up at around 300 yards just to make it interesting. Normally he wouldn't even mind several bullet holes in the trunk lid but he just had it all painted.

Too bad theres no locksmith near you with actual skills. I talked to my buddy about this, he says those locks can't be picked anyway because they have a side bar. He suggested taking out a door cylinder and bringing that to a decent locksmith to have a key made. Its a simple matter to read the wafers and cut a key. He could always hammer a large flat screwdriver in and twist. That usually works.

If he's a good shot, he could put it right through the cylinder with a .223 long.

In my gp

the trunk lock had been replaced so it did not use the same key as the doors
