UNGN I'm just glad you guys made it out alive. Looking at the car I can't even find the words....Thanks for adding to this post

The one thing we learned was "Roll Cages work". Our forward facing camera was 6" behind the main hoop and the back of camera was sheared off:

I agree with everyone else, glad you finally clued us in because we were worried but ultimately all that matters is you guys are OK. Oh, and not to fully hijack the thread here is the originally setup. I will take a pic of current changes when I get home tonight

mclellan83......not sure if you're aware plate style batteries and heavy forward G-forces don't like each other.....in other words, if your car launches hard there's a chance the lead plates inside your battery crash into each other and fail....forward/aft mounting

I had this issue in my 509 bbc (it was large by 90's standards) I didn't have a battery last more than a year until I figured it out
Although McLellan might have an agm battery and may not have that problem

How long ago was this UNGN? I can say without a wreck of that magnitude that a wreck of that magnitude would likely not prevent me from racing again.

My Wreck was 2 years ago, AUgust 2018. I would be racing now, if my back wasn't messed up in the wreck - I shattered 2 vertebrae and they basically just put you in a brace within 5 minutes of being wheeled into the hospital on a backboard, you wear it for 3 month (after they walk you out of the hospital 5 days after they wheeled you in). Walking around on the jumbled vertebrae bits is hard to describe, but you curse a lot, I'm told.

This is why I have a different vision now of how a race car should be built.

I would not stiffen the nose of a car forward of the front suspension. Dale Earnhardt's car had a stiff nose for bump drafting. Mine had lots of extra steel up front for tow straps and tie downs (so my dad could winch it into the trailer and strap it down. It would have been better if all the steel was drilled out. We had HANS devices so our necks/heads were fine, but the impact to the nose became like a vertical wave that went through the frame that was transmitted to our spines.

For a Thin A-Pillar race car, like a G-body, I would definitely put a cage in it vs. just a 6 point, even if the sanctioning body only required a 6 point. For a thick A-pinar car, a 6 point might still be OK.

Plastic battery hold down/breakaway cables

I would mount the front of the seat solid, but would have a rear seat mount that collapsed under high G-loads, like >20G with a bumper at the end of its travel to save the drivers spine.

Stuff that worked were:
The Grand Cherokee Steering shaft - collapsed perfectly,
Factory G-body leather wrapped steering wheel - (it was bent like a pretzel, but my arms were bruised but unhurt)
GTA wheels - at least 6 rolls and all 4 tires were knocked off the beads, but none of the wheels bent (for a 16X8 wheel that weighs less than 17 lbs, - this is crazy)

Thanks for the concern, but even before I got it the previous owner put an optima in. Didn't get a chance to take a pic of the trunk last night since I had to get my place ready for the air ducts to get cleaned today. Will try to get one tonight so I can show off my hack of an air ride cover
