Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

I've tried a popular brand of crossmember with a tubular design in my car with a 4 speed. It was made of chrome-moly and has a couple less bends than yours but the diameter looks about the same. Driving down the road the shifter handle would move up and down in a bouncing motion at least a 1/4 inch. That was too much for me. I took it out and bought a G force unit. Problem fixed. It would be nice to be able to measure the flex in a operating condition to tell how strong the piece is.

The Auburn posi (courtesy of Moser) went in yesterday. Initial backlash was 0.009". We'll run the pattern today and make adjustments to the pattern as needed. Then the awesome Moser axles go in...

I think .009 is perfect for a car that is going to be driven and you got that in your first try...buy a lottery ticket.. 😀

Our Monte is coming together. Satin black powder coat, awesome Moser axles, Auburn posi w 3.73's, Moser cover (prevents bearing cap deflection), and some double adjustable Viking shocks. We even added our relocation brackets in case we head to the drag strip...

Oh and before we get drilled we kept the drum brakes as part of the "Pro-Budget" theme. We will however be upgrading to disc in the very near future.

Been following your thread here for a while.Right now I m starting to get together a low budget airride setup on my 83 el camino. Once I get the basic airsetup done on mostly stock suspension,I might consider umi swaybars & maybe viking adjustable shocks, especially If my choice of airbags makes cornoring looser than my existing drop springs.

Also wondering about the aluminum hubs for the c-5 brake kit, didn't find on your site. I'm planning on my own ls1 brake caliper swap, but may want to just buy hubs instead of cutting down old rotor assemblies into hubs.

nothing wrong with rear drums anyways; considering how much of the braking the rear is doing disks are more for looks when you're not towing anything

X2, the only draw back with drums as you guys already know is when the brakes are applied frequently and hard like in racing which causes the drums to expand and upset the brake bias.

Our Boss 338 wheels just came from Boss Motorsports (American Eagle Wheels) and they look great! We choose the Boss wheels because of the budget pricing and because they are a Made in the USA wheel. We think the gray will compliment our green well.

A big thanks goes out to American Eagle Wheels for keeping their wheels in the USA. Here is a link to see how thier wheels are made: http://americaneaglewheel.com/page.cfm? ... ring&id=13

Making some more progress on the Monte. We hope to get some completed pictures up of all the UMI items installed shortly.

For the front steering kit we choose to use the ProForged rebuild kit and our machined aluminum tie rod adjusters. Below is a picture of the kit, it is very nice!
