Our 79 Monte Carlo- Pro Touring Project

Right lane, no prep. Not bad.

And the racing days are fully tax-deductable as a business expense - development plus marketing. If UMI sales keep everyone's family fed, then it sounds like a dream place to work.

BTW: I spotted the stock GM radio in front of the shifter - nice! Can you image slipping this car through time to the GM Proving Grounds when they were developing the GNX? That would have been fun to watch...

Have you modified the set up in front?. The way they designed the upper control arms and the angle they are connected to the chassis creates an anti dive which works against you trying to set the car up for a corner. When we raced circle track G bodies we were not allowed to move anything so we could not use equal length upper control arms to get rid of the anti dive. . Are you permitted to modify anything?

In the Pro-Touring world, the only rule we have is 200 Treadwear tires. Anything else goes so we would be permitted to modify the pickup points.

Currently we are at the stock upper arm mount position. The lower mounts are stock but blueprinted so all the holes are perfectly in line and symmetrical to the centerline of the chassis.

Hello, another question . . .

Was wondering if you ever tried a staggered front/rear tire setup? I don't want to butcher up my front wells on a show quality 442. I "think" I can make 255/45/17s fit front and rear since they are actually the same width as my 245/60/15s I am running now without problems. 255/45/17 will also yield the stock height. Or, with big block power, I would actually prefer to try to squeeze some 285/40s out back with the 255 fronts which also yields the same 26" stock height. This yields a 1" stagger from front to rear. I have read that staggered tends to produce under-steer but there are some awfully fast cars running staggered setups and perhaps with your adjustable CAs I can setup the car better for staggered? Check out post 45 of my build thread if you want to see what all I have going on the car? Only thing not showing are wheels and tires. But I am leaning toward BFG Comp 2s or Nitto 555 G2s on a 1/2 dozen different wheels at the moment.

OK, technically you are correct so more information.

Though I have one source that says the 245/60 is 10", the BFG website says 9.8 so, given the 10" spec for the 255/45 BFG tire, I'll give you 2/10" on that one.

But, tire diameter affects rubbing too. The 245/60 is 26.7 where the 255/45 is only 26 which is where the "I think I can squeeze a set" in comes from.

Had a problem trying to put slightly oversized winter/off road tires on a SUV. 255/55 [stock height] worked fine. 255/60 [preferred a little more sidewall offroad] rubbed on full turn.
