Yep it is. The turbo 87 cars have a single electric fan. I may replace the fan on the intercooler later with a electric fan. How come you are not out cruising the pig?

Or just remove the fan from the crank before it walks into the intercooler. 😉 It really is of little benefit.

I did a little work on the car this weekend. Fixed the threads in my acessory bracket for my power steering pump, and got it mounted. Made some studs and spaced my inercooler brackets out from the engine a little further. Mounted my intercooler fan. Put new heater hoses on the engine and put my temp sensors in. Test fit the inercooler again. Took some unused parts off to clean it up a bit.

I ordered a new A/C compressor, drier, and belt today. Once that comes in I can button up the front of the engine. I will have to figure out how to mount my ignition box, coil, and cheap power steering reservoir next. Not much of an update, but there you go.

I did not have much time to work on the car this weekend, but I did work a little bit today. My new A/C compressor came in. I had to take the inercooler, belt tentioner, altinator and bracket out to put the A/C compressor in. I did have to drive 70 miles out of my way to Ames to buy long metric bolts and all thread. I got it mounted though. I found out today that a 87 turbo buick altinator is slightly different from a standard ac Delco altinator. The mount tab is longer and beefier the a normal one wire, but mine is new so I will make it work. That is all I have for now.

I did a little work on the car today. I found out that my alternator mounts were smaller than a 87 turbo altinator, causing the brackets from the A/C compressor to the alternator not to fit.

So I cut the small leg off the bracket and rewelded it to the long leg. I ground down my welds and repainted it. You can't tell I did anything. I did not have a long metric bolt for the top Mount hole on the alternator. So I drilled it out and put a helicoil insert for a 5/16 thread in it. I made a small stud to go through it to bolt my bracket and support bar to. Surprisingly my new belt even fits. Here is a picture of the acessories all bolted up.

That is it for now.

Just got caught up on your build Zach. That's a cool car and a cool project. I really like that body style and admire you for doing something different. I lack imagination so I would have just pulled the 3.8 in favor of a V-8 of some type. I like what you are doing better. It's looking great. Keep up the good work.

I know pure power isn't the point of this build, I just gotta know what this puts to the tire. Midstate Machine here in Des Moines has a chassis dyno, $60 for a single run, $100 for a tune. TBH with your setup, you'd probably be better off tuning it yourself (grab an AFR gauge if you haven't already) and then go for a dyno run.

Thank you kind sir! I am going through a lot of trouble and money to make like 300- 400 horsepower, but it is definitely different. This car will remain a driver. That is why I am not too worried about making horsepower or how pretty it looks. Just want it to look decent and be fun to drive. I have a 700 horsepower 70 Nova sitting in the garage if I want that. Eighth mile car, so it does not cruse very good. Once I am satisfied with this car I am going to start on my highschool car. A 79 Monte Carlo. Going to build a custom out of that one, but that will be a while. I think after I get this setup running and the bugs worked out, I figure the transmission will go out. I have a built Coan 350 turbo that will go in. When the transmission does go I think I will pull the engine too and pretty things up a little. On a lighter note. I have been messing with a few things trying to make things work. As you all know when you change something it snowballs and affects every thing else. I have been tweeking on my inercooler brackets, inercooler, and A/C stuff. Making it all jive. I will post some pictures when I get it all fitting and is worth posting.

That is good to know. I plan to have someone tune it for me when I am ready to turn the boost up. Hoping for say 350 horsepower with a lot of torque. This car should run with a stockish Grand National when I am done.

Here is a picture of my Nova. It was my father's car. When he passed away I got it. I have put a lot of my own money and time in this car. It just is not what I really want and kind of got burnt-out on it.

427 punched and stroked. Full roller engine, stud girdles, big Merlin heads. Don't let the cheap crome fool you, it will run. Little too much for the street, but cool if you like that kind of thing.

Meant to say, $100 per hour test and tune. Some words got deleted. Still a decent deal all things considered.
