Suck N Blow Monte

Move the MSD box back up the fender liner, drill a 3" hole below where the charcoal canister began, and drop the filter on a 90* elbow to fresh air. I did that on my Turbo Regal works wonders.
I thought about doing that Mike. I am worried about if I get caught driving in the rain will it suck up water? I don't normally drive in the rain, but it happens. Think Power Tour, some day. How did you support the pipe? It has to move or flex because of the engine rock. Thinking about maybe putting a flexible hose in between and mounting the filter more solid.

I just built an aluminum splash shield to keep water off it, these days you can add a hydrophobic filter sock. It bolted to existing holes in the liner and frame.

A simple leg bracket would provide enough support if worried... I just used my splash shield to hold the filter up. Be sure to add drain holes at the back.

I pittled with the car this afternoon. I looked at different options for running my intake, filter, and charcoal can. I decided the way I had it mocked up will probably work the best. I looked into drilling a hole and mounted the filter under the inerfender, but it would take up a lot of usable area. I think it will pull cold air good through the left fender. Beings my car is an A body the fenders ar hollow and the inerfenders are different from the later years. I need a flat spot where the charcoal canister used to sit to mount stuff. The spot is kind of concaved.

So I came up with the idea of building a shelf. I made a template out of cardboard.

Now all I need is some sheet metal! I am still not done with the air filter yet. I have a few ideas I want to try yet. I worked on my power steering reservoir today. Beings I have a saginal style power steering pump I have to have a remote mount resivor. Used Grand National ones are worth there weight in gold and would not work all that great. Aftermarket ones are 100 bucks or more. So I bought a Ebay special for 12 dollars. The threaded holes were kind of messed up and were metric straight thread. So I retapped them to quarter pipe thread and put different fittings in it. I drilled a small hole in the cap for a vent.

I did tap the holes a little deeper so the fittings fit in a little better after that picture. Worked on the mount and mocked it up again. Tomorrow I am going to take it to work and weld it up.

That is were I am at for now. As a side note : kudos to the people that put twin turbo v8 in these cars! I don't know how they do it.

I'd add a drain hole for the MSD mount if you haven't thought about it. Or maybe mount it at a slight angle...?

I did some work on the car this weekend. I got my power steering reservoir mount all welded up and painted. Put the asembly on, and plumbed it. I think it turned out nice.

I used some household window seal for a cushion between the clamp and the can. The diameter of the can was an odd size and the clamp was a little too big so the fome worked good. I picked up some sheet metal the other day. I spent the afternoon making my mounting plate for my ignition stuff and the charcoal canister. I welded bolts to the plate to fasten the components to the plate. I put some of the window seal on the bottom of the ignition box and charcoal can. It will give the parts some cushion and raise them up enough to clear the head of the welded bolt. Here it is mocked up for the last time.

Did a little more altercation and then painted it.

The reason I welded bolts to the plate was. One it makes it easier to mount stuff. Two the only hacking or modifying I did to the car was drill two small holes in the inerfender to mount it. It would be scary what I could build with better tools and atmosphere. I use pretty primitive tools and am working out of my shed with a dirt floor and no isolation. Stay tuned I have a few more ideas in my head that will get played out soon. Thanks for following along!

Nice work! Very clean.

I did some work on the car this weekend. Friday night I decided to go a head and paint my coil and ignition box black. It was in the 50's. Scuffed them, primred them, and painted them black. Saturday afternoon I mounted all the parts I have been working on.

I finalized my decision on how I wanted my intake tube and filter to be.

I made a z bracket out of some bar stock to hold the air filter in place. After reading and looking at Jarod's car I feel a little ashamed of how dirty and crapy my engine compartment looks. So today in between coats of paint on some parts, I scrubbed the fender wells and surrounding parts with some solvent on a rag. Looks a little better now. In my defense I keep telling myself this is a driver not a show car, it is just going to get dirty. No more shiny parts now. I painted the breather and intake parts. I will take a picture when I put that stuff back on. Any one enjoying this so far?
