Nothing terribly exciting today, but necessary nonetheless.

Since I just recently purchased my Cutlass (2 weeks today) and also considering the condition its in, I figured it would be a good time to do some basic maintenance. So I took care of a couple of those items this morning. I changed the oil and installed a new air filter. Both were in pretty poor shape prior to the change. I didnt have any information on the maintenance history of the car when I bought it. Turns out that it hasnt had a tune up or much attention recently, since the oil was completely black and the air filter was leaning that direction. The oil filter took a little torque to remove, but overall it was a successful morning.

Ive got a brake light issue that I'm probably going to tackle this weekend as well. All indicators right now point to the turn signal switch (the replacement is sitting in its box waiting to be installed).

Felt good to be working on the car, finally!

Started a big project today - installing a double din radio. I would not have tackled it if it were not for the other people on this forum first who did many before me. I'm about 5 hours in to the job and I relocated the HVAC controls to the glove box (they are not permanently mounted yet - I'll finish that tomorrow). I need to make some brackets to hold the controls in. I also fixed the wiring and set the new double-din touch screen radio in place and ran the mic for the Bluetooth. I spent a good hour with the dremel tool shaving away just enough plastic so I can keep the cig lighter and have a little space at the top t make a switch panel. I tested the fit and also the wiring - it fired right up and worked great. Tomorrow I'll fabricate the bezel and get that all in to place. Hopefully, with some luck, it will be done tomorrow. The next step is new speakers. The existing stock speakers just cannot handle it. But I planned on adding new speakers and building cabinets for the trunk.

And the final mod - hung fuzzy dice in the mirror that I just got in the mail. I have all blue LED lighting for the car so they will match perfect.

And I'm spent!

I made a prototype quarter window replacement panel.

Hopefully, the one I'll use will be made out of 20ga. (the prototype is 18ga.) and be made out of one piece of metal with no weld seams except where it'll be welded to the roof.

Didn't do too much today. I cut out the radio bezel to fit the new double din head unit and tested the mounting - so far so good. Then it was off to home depot to get some lexan to make the switch panel to go over the top of it, and pep boys to get some switches and other electrical odds and ends. I hope to have it finished this week but.....

.....it all depends on if my boss gives me the raise I asked for on Monday. If he does, I'll have the extra cash to get speakers and the subwoofer (and my wife's birthday present). If he doesn't, it will just have to wait. I don't know if anyone out there has ever asked for a raise before, but it was kind of uncomfortable. I went through the hassle of making a list of reasons why I earned it (and the dollar amount I was asking for), with printed back up to justify each point. It is the point where he told me I'd get a "review", but never in my life have I had to ask - I've always had employers come to me and offer it. Well I'll cross that off the to do list and keep my fingers crossed. Wish me luck! :blam:
