Pulled the 1406 off of it to lend to my dad so he can get his truck running and to the body shop for paint.

Pulled a couple Saginaw pumps off the shelf and tore them apart. Both reservoirs look usable with minimal dents in them but they have different return line shapes. The one on the right is a little better than the other and I think after some Evapo-Rust and paint it'll look new. The one pump itself is pretty sloppy, but the other seems rebuild-able. I have it soaking in chem dip now, I'll get it disassembled and buy a kit for it maybe this weekend. Also they had two different pulley sizes. Wonder if I should use the bigger or smaller pulley?
i don't think there's any harm in over driving the p/s pump with the smaller one.

Well I was thinking about this a little last night. The smaller pulley came from a bigger car, a 76 LeSabre. The bigger pulley came from a Regal. I don't know if there is enough difference to make a noticeable change in the steering feel, but I don't want the steering to be too numb nor do I want the pump robbing more power than it has to.

Anyway I disassembled the pumps today and I'm gonna wind up using the later metric pump as it seems to be in better condition. Interestingly the earlier pump has thicker vanes in it. Same number of vanes, but bigger diameter. Still not sure which reservoir I'm going to use. I did strip the paint off of them. The one appears to have a very slight kink in the return hose line, but it may have always been like that. I'm probably over thinking it, but that's what I do. I'm pretty certain I could make either one work, but the routing would be different.

I have the pump that I'm using as well as both pulleys and the brackets in the Evapo-Rust overnight. I bought two rebuild kits but I'll probably only end up using one. Tomorrow I'll get the reservoirs in the Evapo-Rust.
