What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

My guess is emissions is a big one. I'm not saying you're wrong, merely offering my observations. It's not night and day going from 195 to 180, but before with stock fan settings on the Z06 it was an absolute turd at 220 when autocrossing even though ambient was in the 30s. You have to consider the factory's objectives vs your own when choosing an operating temperature.

if your Z06 was a dog at 220° it wasn't due to the engines temperature. That isn't even that hot

just cut off the g body perches and weld on some 5" perches....what is the spring rate of those springs? Oh and it isn't stupid, you have lots of springs with different lengths and different spring rates to choose from, Afco has a great selection of springs
So cut off that little nipple like protrusion on the frame side that really just for holding the stock spring isolators in?

I went with 14 inches tall with a 150 pounds per inch rate. Found somewhere that 1 inch drop springs (I think it was on OPGI) had a spring rate of around 140. Since stock springs are 14.75 inches tall according to Jeff’s spring chart, I’ll get the slight drop Im after.

Depends on what IATs were. That and IATs and ECTs get blended for fueling and timing. They get protective as temps go up and as a result, performance suffers. It is very noticeable. Oddly enough though, my Camaro (93 LT1) does not lay down at all even as temps are approaching 250 for water. Don't ask me why, again just what I've observed. To reiterate though, at the track the C5Z was very noticeably weaker at elevated water temps than the Camaro. So while it may not be a physics thing, the way the tune is configured can ruin your fun.

Got the old broken shift handle off the column finally. Had to put PB Blaster on the pin and let it soak since lunch time. That sucker was in there. Got that out and painted the replacement. Nothing fancy but better than broken.

I hope you change your oil every 1000 miles due to your engine running too cool to burn contaminates like water. You can damage your engine running it cool due to lack of lubrication.
Well, my old gauge always apparently read 20 degrees higher. Even with the 180 stat I put in when I flushed the rad a few weeks ago it would read whatever the hell the line and 3 dots is. Sometimes below by a needle width or two.
I assume it means 212*.

why do you think new cars run in the 220° to 230° range?, one reason is better fuel economy
They also have far better and more efficient cooling systems than our cars.
It's not like it's running at 160 or below. 170-190 max imo is a good range for a carbed old-school v8 that gets driven 365 days a year. Gives me that extra 20 or so degree threshold before sh*t hits the fan, while still giving me good heat and whatnot. If that means in 100k or even 50k it needs another going through or I lose 2mpg, so be it. Oil 2500 miles in looks great. Just starting to loose its syrup color.

I hate to be a naysayer... But the engine in my brand new VW never goes above 200 in either sub freezing temps or high 90's F, and neither does the gauge in my El Camino, most guys with GN's run 160 degree thermostats. Water boils at 212F which is way too hot if you ask most people for coolant temp. So if your coolant temp never goes above 180 or 200 for that matter... How can you burn off water from inside the engine?

Though to be fair there is an oil temp gauge in the VW and when I'm hammering it from stop light to stop light I've seen oil temp go as high as 228 which bothers me, it's usually at like 216 normally which should theoretically boil out water from the oil. Other contaminants like gasoline should boil out at much much lower temperature. I think gasoline has like a room temperature flash point.
