What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

I'm using a 140 Hobart Handler. The recommended settings suck. Run them fukkers hot and worry about warping later 🤣 don't tell Rktpwrd I said that...

For once I actually agree about turning up the heat. For smaller areas like that on a frame, you ain’t gonna warp anything. Crank the heat and the wire speed and burn that b*tch in good. 1/8” will take it with a 140 machine.
It’s just on sheetmetal that ya gotta be real careful with the heat. Heat is the enemy welding on sheetmetal.

And ya know Joe, I’m less likely to find out about what you don’t want me to know when you don’t tag me on it....
🤪😂

*Hack-nician rule of thumb- Turn it up just until you are blowing through the metal, then kick it down one setting 👌

*For anyone actually trying to learn anything, do yourself a favor and pay no mind to my trolling...

I changed the distributor, I was using the MSD 85551 locked cause the MSD 6AL 2 controls the timing and vaccum advance. The 85551 has no lead for the tack and the MSD box is rpm is wired to the Fast efi. I installed one of my E curve distributors that was already wired to the box and E curve has a wire for a tach so it''s nice to see the tack working. I like the E curve cause if the box ever fails I can change 2 wires, turn the timing curve dials from 0-0 to 1-4, attach the vacuum advance and I'm on the road again. I change the cover above the pedals and had to cut it for the 3rd pedal. I also changed the glove box and I was going to change the lock but I though I would try my key and it worked, was that just a fluke or are all boxes opened with any G body key?... 🤔

now for the interesting part, I had not driven the GP at nite this year for any extended time. On my way home the GP died at a light. I got it started but it died again a little ways down the road. The battery was down to 11.4 volts so that told me why the car would not start. I got out my boost but it still would not start. Strange thing is when I out the lights on that would turn the ignition on and the Fast ecu was on. I turned the lights off and the GP fired up and everything was working ok, cept the alternator. The alternator could not keep up and as soon as I pulled into my parking spot the GP died again, the fan has kicked on and that pulled too much power. I'm physic but in the what did you buy I'll be posting I bought an AD244 to replace my tired CS144...
What kind of battery did you buy?

I have a red top, one that actually works. I'll test it with it with a loadtester just to make sure it is still good
If it worked correctly, you should have made it home. I've never heard of anyone having a good red top; they always crap out, in use or storage. I had a yellow that was a beast. I'm currently abusing an Advanced Autocraft AGM that has been holding up well.

I loadtested it last month and I'll check it again today. I was on the road for over an hour last nite and I did notice the alternator wasn't charging like it normally does. If I was thinking I would have turned off the sound system that has 2 amps.

Red top bad.

I haven't had that much luck with them. We got rid of the Red top in Sean's Camaro back in 2019, I think and I replaced the one in my truck Monday night. I don't know how old it was (no markings, I didn't bother with digging through receipts and I'm losing my mind so I can't remember anything anymore).

With the recent proliferation of AGM batteries, I think there are better options out there. I went with a Super Start Platinum from O'Reilly. I was going to go with the Deka Intimidator but the little shop by the office didn't have one and I needed it right then. I'm really pleased to have the correct group battery back in my truck. The Red top didn't fit well.

I don't much faith in them as well but this one seems to be holding up fine, it must have slipped by the quality control team at the factory.....
