What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Wife's fusion has needed nothing but tires, breaks, an EVAP hose, resealing the trans pan and lug nuts since we got it at 58k, it's got 145k now.

But now stuff is stacking up.

Did front pads this spring and had the rotors turned since they were a bit rusty/grooved. Started shaking on mid breaking and decided to do rear pads and rotors last month since they were 4 years old. Didn't solve the problem.

Threw new front rotors and pads on since the rears didn't solve it even though they had like 2000 miles on the turned set and new pads. Thankfully that solved the issue.

And the car developed a clunk from the rear when it hits bumps. I couldn't find anything but since end links seem to be a common issue I parts cannoned them in, no luck.

So no brake shimmy (good) but still clunks on bumps (bad). Hrmph.

Shocks or struts? Struts could possibly have a bushing gone bad. Gives a clunk. Jack one side at a time and use a bar like your checking the ball joints. Not totally positive but large potential.
You may notice tire wear from that too.

So finally finished the passenger side e-brake on my sister’s ford. Had a bad feeling about the driver’s side. Good thing too. E-brake springs where not in good shape. So off the get parts. And they where wrong ones. Fortunately with her having had multiple fords in the last 15 years ( all trucks ) went digging and found I had some new ones hidden away! I swear ford hates mechanics. Simple job took lots of cursing and over an hour for 2 springs and 2clips😖. Also found the caliper slides frozen with rust. Just to many consistent problems with rear disc brakes. But feel better that she’s in a safer vehicle now. May go though the front brakes just because.
I’ll just keep picking away at problems. Being an 03’ have to look at vacuum lines and normal age rust/wear areas.

I put some new rivets into the tool box lock latches of the box on my truck, I guess they broke off at some point. Then tightened the anchors, they were loose.

Ontop of the boredom, weeded the flower bed in the front of my house and leveled the stones on the back patio. Tree roots came in here and it needed to be done.

You ever drive up to NH and want some rocks for decorating I have a few you can take home. I know you don’t grow them like this down there 🤣

I grew up in upstate NY, I'm used to the land slides and all kinds of rocks. Florida is all sand, any rock here is trucked in.

Could be something is telling you to put a 20” lift kit in🤪?Naaaa, stock is good!!😎
Imo it's already lifted more than enough anymore and my fat azz ain't getting in it lol
I was just thinking a small piece of box tube and drill some holes in it, maybe even some angle but whatever works haha
Yeah so was I then I started thinking about what was there and realized I could make it work.

Hopefully not adding fuel to anyone's fire here but did spend part of the day sitting at a traffic light and listening to the maraca sound of a 5.7 Hemi as it sat there at idle, waiting for the light to turn. The truck did move out when the light went green; guess the driver was already late and trying to make up some time by shaving a point or two off the speed limit.

Did have to wonder if the maraca racket was normal or a consequence of normal wear and tear or something poorly designed in the engine?

Being a resident of the Land of the Frozen Chosen, around here the local transportation buying habits tend heavily towards trucks. Something macho about the image of being a truck owner that the manufacturers prejudice their marketing and advertising towards heavily promoting.. Just for comparison, five trucks equal the cost of a newly built home out in the subdivision. Granted that the house comes with builder's grade components and finishes, but then again so do the trucks.

For me, the only qualifiers of importance as they relate to a truck, any truck, is that it have a truck box that can accept a 4x8 sheet of plywood or wall board, that i can get into it without having to have a crane, or elevator, or some kind of rising/falling side rail, added to it as an accessory, and that it get mpg in the 20 miles/gallon department. Filling a truck tank right now is a 200 dollar per fill bite in the wallet and diesel is no longer cheaper. This is a forum and board that embraces all aspects of both the best and worst of the G-Body genre, but, at the same time, iis also broad minded enough to allow thought and comment on a wide range of automotive and not so automotive subjects. I'd hate to see Non G-body threads become anathema; declared politically taboo and cast out of heaven as untouchable.

Tailgate open? Or closed? 'Cause if the requirement is closed, it's going to be slim pickings nowadays. I feel like a majority on the road today are double cabs with 5-5.5 foot boxes. Which feel really impractical to me. I got an extended cab, 6.5' box, which is better, but still really annoying that I can't put sheet goods in the back and close the tailgate.

I can't understand why the true crew cab with the 8 foot bed is gone by the wayside. Used to be you could put a load of 2x6x12s in the bed with the gate down, some 2x10/12x16s on top, tools in the back and head to where you wanted to do work. Now? Not so much, and they expect you to use crap trusses on everything to the point where it's a major demo project after a water problem and integrity is lost within just 2 or 3 minutes of a fire breaking out.

Too few trucks meant for WORK, and too many built for your urban cowboy who doesn't need it.

Derrrr..... uh huh it's a pick up
