What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Time for a late morning coffee update. Some of this stuff was done last night and some today but I didn't get pictures. I forgot because my home life was on my mind. So the bottom of the cab is done all back together for install running board bolt holes fixed trans linkage clipped to the floor and heat shields on.View attachment 204662
Not much to see there but in these photos.
Fuel system done
Up pipes done
Down pipe done
And body bushings ready

Now I'm coming up with an idea to brace this coolant pipe that comes out of the mid plate because the last thing I need is that thing leaking laterView attachment 204667
It's only held in by a 12mm bolt threw a sheet metal flange and it's flimsy. Basically the o-ring holds it in. So I want it to be sturdy. What it bolted to before is gone! Part of the performance upgrades.
Do you have room to make a brace off the two bolt holes on the head that are right there?

I have a Cobalt LS for a gas saving daily driver.

Got creative while drinking in the garage last night. Played Scrabble with the emblems on the trunk.

Probably lost 5-10 hp for this one!

Can't see the engine?? Probably for the best. Not much to see and most of it is so arcane in nature and operation that it might as well be magic. The biggest magic trick of all is how much the typical dealer charges per hour for parts and labor and gets away with it!

one of his last engine pics, I thought to myself: "starting to look like there's an engine under there"

been chasing an a/c issue on the DD deville, pass side comes out of the vents @ 50* and driver's side comes out @ 72*, off of a single evap coil... tried pulling out a few components to run a camera up the venting, but couldn't get far enough in.... it escalated quickly....

still haven't found the issue, but ended up pulling the rest of the carpet for pressure washing (while I'm in here...😗 ).... figure it'll look good for resale if I can't sort out the a/c issue.... like clutch, working in en eclosed shop in 95-100* temps sucks. Getting older means you appreciate the creature comforts, such as a/c, and figure it's too nice to have after a long hot day of slaving, to do without...

side note: my northern friends always ask why I don't move back to Detroit, this thing just answered any questions... 20 years old, 189k miles (northstar with the original headgaskets/bolts) and NO rust in the floors.

You didn't get that specific about the nature of the beast but, doing some inferring here, thinking it might be about the amount or lack or cold coming from the vents? Last Cadillac that I personally dug into still used vacuum lines to the dash panel to actuate the various controls and levels. The tubing was a sort of semi-hard plastic and very thin walled. Old age and UV hardening could easily have caused a tube to crack and leave you without some degree of function in the system..

Only because the cab is still hanging over it in mid air because the lift crapped out. Once the cab comes down and put back into position, that whole visual image goes away; most of it being buried under the sheet metal. So buried that taking the cab off was apparently the easiest way to get to all of it, and back to the stealership labor/hr wage bite..

If everything is together, looks like there's bolt holes empty on the back k of the head below the valve over in that pic. Maybe some kind of brace there?
Yup that was my plan
What goes in these 2 holes and how solid do you want to mount it?

Yes that was from the EGR cooler and that's what I used.

Yeah it takes a certain age to get it.

I certainly never want to do it again.

Ok now that I've replied time for an update!
I made a bracket out of parts that came off the truck and a piece of bed frame lol

What your seeing is the original EGR cooler bracket bolted to the head and an aftermarket block off plate for the original up pipe bot it only gave me provisions for 1 mounting bolt so that's a small piece of bed frame bolted to the other side to stabilize it square. Sometimes it doesn't pay to overthink things and I definitely was. My discount rad hoses kit didn't work so the may pop old lower went back on but it doesn't need to hold boost pressure anymore so it may last a while. I really want as far as I could today. The only way I could have gone farther is either put the cab back on or put the rad support back on. My back wasn't having that alone so I just did as much as I could

The new charge pipes are nice and the powder coat seams of good quality hopefully it dose it's job and breathes better than stock. I'm told less restriction threw out the system lowers EGT truthfully I don't know how it works I'm just throwing parts at it they were cheap mine were rotted I put them on. If I can get a hand from someone tomorrow after work to pick up the support with me and I can get the lift working I'll be well on my way by Tuesday. Really gotta get that cab lower so I can get my new glow plugs out of the console.
