What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

I do hear you. Losing a riding brother from the old days and almost not making it to the funeral....well. that would have rated in the top five for pure suckage. There will be price at for my work at some point that my body will expect me to pay. Pain is supposed to a sign of weakness leaving the body, for my body it is more a case of welcoming a old friend back.

On light install duty for the work pig.
Bought some Amazon tow hooks and fog light brackets for converting to 4" LED lights, also some brackets for some china 5" LEDs on the hood.

These brackets bolt under the hood hinges. Barely with enough thread.

These somewhat ugly tow hook replacements are a mount for a 32" curved bar and shackles for recovery. You can see just how pitted and rusted my bumper is. Not sure how I'll tackle that in the future.

Still have to install the fog light replacement brackets and lights but should be a pile better for seeing stuff in the north at work this winter.

That is cutting it close.

Whats up with all them lights? Setup to let them people know who leave their high beams on?

Ditch lights. To spot animals on the road and to find leaks in water lines at night at work.

Dad bought a 95 F700 ford to replace his 89 F350 service truck and made it all of 1 day at home before he cut 3ft out of the frame (it was a box truck). He wants the frame to be 10ft long, same wheel base as his cab & chassis F350.

Needed to shorted the 2 piece driveshaft and I have a lathe & steady rest so get to choppin!

Step 1- pull the tailstock off and put 5ft long driveshaft hanger bearing side into chuck. Flap wheel the rust off the OD and support the shaft once aligned. Cut 2ft from front

Step 2- face weld & part the tube

Step 3- Knock tube off

Step 4- Turn remaining tube & weld off

Step 5- Tap shortened tube onto front hub, tack. Dad is going to assemble & check for R/O on the truck. There isn't much opportunity for significant R/O and it's a flipping 2 ton diesel truck so the slight potential vibration isn't a huge concern

Repeat for front half of the shaft, cut out 1ft

And you get the rust of the picture

Got the clutch and bell back in, I wish I'd never pulled the bell. Such an asspain to deal with in the car.

Here you can see the rivets he used to balance the thing. There are more, and I know he tweaked on the flywheel before bolting on the PP too. Next I installed the C6 DTE brace I nearly forgot about.

PXL_20220822_004808834.jpg

I got it for basically nothing with that C6 donor trans that I stole so many guts out of to patch this one up. Next I hucked the whole mess up in the car, easier said than done.

PXL_20220822_040730666.jpg

The mufflers kept getting in the way, the shifter box was snagging on the brake lines, sh*t didn't want to move forward/backward, it fought me tooth and nail getting onto the trans jack, and eventually just didn't want to seat. I eventually drew it in with a 1/4" ratchet and a longer bolt until the dowel pin hit the bell housing. It wasn't centered. . . WTF? Best I can tell the clutch disc was a bit off center. I drew it in with a couple bolts and some pressure, spun the clutch by hand about one revolution, and it finally succumbed and bottomed out with that 1/4" drive ratchet. I like using the small ratchet to keep myself out of trouble doing it that way. What a complete and utter pain in the *ss! I've had the drivetrain out before and it's never fought me like today. Unreal. Both subframes are tight so I think I'm done, deal with some piddly crap tomorrow. There are a few tedious details to attend to before just slapping the rest of the car together and sending it, I don't expect wheels down before next weekend.

This is where that 2-piece Bell Housing comes in handy in the C5, remove the lower part and all that drops out the bottom. It's tight but you don't have to pull the whole Bell Housing. C6 is one piece so more work there.

The rest sounds like the normal nightmare and makes you hate life.

I almost forgot Friday night I also straightened my left front fender it had 2 huge buckles front and back and a nasty dent in the center that I couldn't stand looking at so I priced out the dent from the back with long pdr picks and tapped the buckles down. It needs a wipe and paint but at least now it has a good hood line. I can pull it in the shop and do a better job after it runs anytime I want so it's good enough for now

The original thought was to leave the lawn for today but the local forecast is calling for rain so it got it's haircut last night. If I wasn't bent before, by the end of that exercise I had reached bent 2.0. Racked out early. Actually slept fairly well and woke up just in time to remember that this is a non shift day, which was okay because the first item on my agenda was a scheduled visit to the Hospital Cardio-Cath department so they could run a scan on my pacemaker; it's a housekeeping thing with them. The good news?; I have eleven years life left in the battery. The better news? the machine spit out about three feet of ticker tape that, summarily, said "all is okay.

Got out of there right quick before they decided to change their minds and headed for the speed shop to pick up my injector O-rings and the air cleaner spacers for the AVS. From there, on the yard to settle up with them for the Ro-Ro- ride, Tony still hasn't completed that paperwork and they want him out on the road but he still has to swap out a hydraulic hose; lucky him, I hate hydraulic oil, got my fill of the stuff metaphorically when I worked in equipment assembly. Anyway, got that settled and came home.

Today is shaping up to be a Maybe Day, as in maybe I will take the day off and do nothing, or maybe I will dig out the second post mufller exhaust dump from the Monte and give it some wire wheel love or maybe install some more injector O-rings or maybe...............................

Put the new battery into the El Camino in hopes that I was going to take it the next day to a show to see how it runs, my sister is afraid to drive it because she thinks it may break down on her. Ended up working late Friday so wasn't able to take it to Mineral Beach like I had hoped

Saturday morning my buddy talked me into going to a cars n caffeine event up in Wexford at the Bentley dealer, wasn't really a very big turnout. But they had a free coffee truck that seemed to cater to the hipsters since it had gluten free chocolate chip cookies and vegan strawberry bars to go with it. Ended up spending most of the time in line for the coffee and then went inside the dealer to get the A/C. Decided to go to Chic fil A for some actual food after
