What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

I am not much help. My 04 Rainier and my MIL's 06 both have that 'deluxe' thermostat style system you have.

Mine has eaten a few blend doors and the MIL's melted the plug where the power goes into the blower fan but the displays haven't exhibited the same problems you have.

Do you have rear seat HVAC? Does that work?

Finally getting time to reply. Yes mine has the rear seat controls, and no they're not working either.
Update though, as of today I'm actually getting heat out of the vents, I just can't control it. Starting to seem more like the blower motor resistor. I tried a junkyard unit prior, but no way to tell if it was working or not. Just a weird issue since most problems with these climate control systems the digital display is lit up.

I can't say anything about your specific system, but, if it's like my gmt800 of similar age there is an automatic climate setting within the switches.

So, the vents may blow heat trying to reach an internally designated temp, and isn't responding to switch back to your alternate manual designation.

Which part is responsible to respond to your attempts to change that could be part of the problem, but, I've never played with much inside that truck.

You might consider checking out the information on www.alldatadiy.com

It likely has a write up on exactly how the system works (from GM) and has diagnostic procedures.

My guess, and that's all it is, is that the BCM is running the show and the control panel is just the interface. You tried three different control panels, so that's been eliminated.

Otherwise, I would think its a problem in the harness. Has the radio been replaced? Has someone been in the dash?

Do you have a fuse box under the Driver's side rear seat? If so, did you check fuses in there? I found a thread that suggested that but it was an 02.

This is why, if you ever need to disconnect the battery on these things, you should try and keep power applied to the vehicle. I'm doubtful it'll being back his dead display though. Maybe he got a junker replacement?

Replaced the broken door handle on the Ranger.

I worked on a couple beers earlier at the beach bar..🤣

Not sure who did that but that's a legit sand castle.

Are you guys qualified down there for winter beer? 🤔

And now an LS1Tech copy/paste.

Today was nice and warm so I got out the pressure washer and hit the engine bay and undercarriage. I had enough sun to dry the garage floor. Next I turned to the shortblock. I hit the outside with degreaser and whacked it with the pressure washer. Like the car, I didn't get everything, but it's a lot cleaner. Next I yanked the oil pan. Upon removal, it seems I was a little stingy on the silicone out back, but the pan gasket was also split. Maybe the rear main isn't to blame after all for the incessant mess.

Found a mess in the oil pickup, but after seeing those decimated valve seals back in June I can't say I'm surprised. I am happy to have that crap out of the oil pickup though.

That doesn't account for all the green chunks of valve seal I scraped out of the pickup, or the metal gravel that I found in the oil filter, oil pan, and just generally everywhere. I'm going to crack a few bearing caps to see how concerned I should be. In theory, this metal should have all come out of the heads, so as long as the bottom end is still happy then game on. I was seeing some scmoo in the pan, and I saw it in the intake valley too. I wonder if this VR1 is light on detergents?

It wasn't gunked up, but this stuff wasn't affected easily by carb cleaner, but it also just wiped right off. This windage tray had seen better days, seems it was about to cause an issue.

Completely broken around the oil pump, and largely separated at the next fastener up. I should have another on the shelf from a Vortec 350 I ripped down. So as much work as it is, I'm glad I cracked this thing open the rest of the way. If it turns into too big of a mess I'm just gonna drop the spare motor in and send it. Fingers crossed my spare can remain a spare.
