What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

my kid bought his first car. 2.5 awd 5cyl turdbo volvo. Honestly I am happy he bought an " old man " car as his first vehicle.
Its leaking at the rusted fuel filter. Plastic fuel lines and the underbody and body in general is actually really great for an 05 so for and old fella like me its NBD right? 10 mins and we can swap that filter out. ....... We are 3 hours in now.. So that green clip was supposed to remain in the fuel line when he pulled the filter off and is now leaking like a MF with the new fuel filter installed. So it grinded it off and put it on the new the filter and shoved all it back in the line and it still leaks. MF. Dont want to order a new fuel line just for a $.10 part. Ive tried a couple o rings, Dont want to resort to grinder ( again ) and hose clamps. I know i am a grumpy old man but I am frustrated by getting stopped by a darn o ring or whatever wont hold the fuel pressure
If the alternative is a new fuel line, could a last change cheap alternative be a Dorman help rusted fuel line repair section and a universal filter patched into that?

It's how we used to add inline filers on the fuel line for grand national drivetrain swaps.

If it gets to a replace it anyways situation might be a sub-$10 fix to save money on a part without the phallic symbol stamped on it.

Took another crack at the headlights on the dually, had to hack my messed up grill to get it to clear the lights.

Time for new blinker housings now, I'll probably spring for some NOS GM bits.

Also zapped a bung in for a trans temp sensor. I got these because of the step, I can weld from behind and that flange will hold the heat of the welder.

Worked like a champ. I need to move the sensor to the pan on my 1500 as well. I'll drag longer welds on that to make it cleaner, but this one wasn't porous from what I could see.

A little JB Weld on the outside for insurance.

Gonna finish up the wiring tomorrow with the oil temp gauge.

Ah, Atlas 4.2 I-6?? We be talking diesel here? You could always electrify it. GM has a solidly wicked e-drive that they plan on offering commercially. Or, if a diesel, why not a GM Series 71 two stroke? They come with a blower and adding the turbo is basically a trip through the parts book or even maybe E-Buy. Would probably mean a set of frame connectors as insurance Biggest hassle would likely be the transmission; you could end up sitting in the back seat! Anyone for a street legal diesel powered altered coupe??

Nick

Atlas is the gas inline 4, 5 or 6 cyl platform that GMT350/360 platform vehicles got. Colorado, H3, Trailblazer.

They are kinda a pain to swap since you need to fab an oil pan, intake & exhaust manifolds but I like the challenge. They are very available but expensive and controlling the engine is pretty tough since you really need the VVT.

Option 2 is a DX block Olds with the 425 crank. I already have the crank & an old holley single plate SBO intake manifold. Just the machine work on that setup is a bit scary price wise and sourcing parts if you blow something up is really hard. It took 3 years to find the crank and I still haven't found a block. Piston/rods are custom, the good edelbrock heads are on backorder, ect, ect.

Option 3 is an L8T 6.6 liter LT series gas the newer 3/4 ton GM pickups get. They are surprisingly decently priced considering you get stroked LS3 performance for less money and the bottom ends are STOUT. $5-6k is a lot up front but for drop in 400hp 460ftb with a truck tune means they are 550hp with a cam and tune and should make over 1k on under 1 BAR of boost.

More performance than a DX gas stroked olds, cheaper, easier to replace, but less cool.

So today was some cleanup day. Moved two parkbenches and 2 sets of tires in the dilapidated shed, along with a pair ofnold metal car ramps. Came back with 3 bedsides, moved a car ramp to make enough length to fit the wall, and, this little b*st*rd was in there.

No guns at the property yet. No shovels either. So I nailed him with the flat side of some log equipment. Got 1/3 of him trapped under it, little b*st*rd was striking like mad but could get far. Then he turned to attacking the metal pole.

Now I've got to head back with the .177 pellet and finish it off later on. Thought about leaving it but who knows if the tissue would pinch off and the suckered would live.

Arizona, we have the rattlers and black widows. Lost count of times pulling back a tarp over and engine or trans only to find a Black Widow web and its owner. The other major issue is pack rats. Had a Cadillac with the 4.9 and had to reattach just about every fuel injection wire. They chew down to the nub and lots of soldering..., not fun.

Definitely not car related, but I started a project in reference to the current Ukraine war. Not quite done yet, but pics attached.

Built a lot of models as a kid, been long time since doing a project such as this.

Mowed the lawn with the Cub Cadet and got the edges done with the Lawn-Boy. Used the cart for the first time this year. Tire needed air but the decals and paint are still holding up well even after sitting outside all winter.

My Jeep Cherokee spider gears were coming from Washington got hung up in Cali then Arizona. I was worried because it was the last set of USA Gears brand forged with the shims. I finaly got them today and WOWSERS they are actually YUKON gears in a YUKON box. I thought USA Gears were a sideline of less better parts owned by YUKON. So the Richmond "tech" guy told me he never saw a set of shims come with open differential gear sets. That could be true working at Richmond but everyone else includes the shims so you can get the proper clearance. I'm glad I went with the better brand. Now to put them if it gets below boiling outside tomorrow.
