What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

Elechickened the box for AC today.

Bit the bullet and hired an HVAC contractor to install mini splits in my house. Tried the diy thing but couldn't buy the parts and the markup and labor in the system wasn't that bad.

This electrical box and running wiring was the last to do before they can get the units in.

Had enough with not having AC the last few summers (besides window units). Coulda bought a really nice Omega for what AC costs but basic comfort is worth something!

Did you get heat pump or just straight a/c?

According to the the guy I hired they are heat pumps now, or at least the brand they install is (Haier).

Figured they probably were. I know it gets bitter cold there in the winter, but you will like them during your transition period into the cold months. Saves on your heating costs some.

Go south and some climates can almost make all winter on them.

I think you'll like them

Yeah I'm looking forward to it.

House is from the 50's and has hot water baseboard/ natural gas boiler. Previous 2 owners never put AC in and it's not worth ripping apart the perfectly functional hot water system and running ducts.

Should be a nice way to heat the house into the low 20's at least. Natural gas has always been historically cheaper than electric heat up here but every since the Texas grid crash thing last winter natural gas prices went up about 50% and electric heat is comparable in price.

The accumulation of junk and extra projects continues....

Today an oddly rusted hulk sort of fell into my lap so to speak. So, in addition to The Original redneck trailer (#1) which is complete, and luxury redneck trailer #2 which only has a chopped frame right now while I play around with various brake, tongue, and 12 bolt vs 14 bolt options...

May we introduce what will become redneck trailer #3. It is also going to leapfrog redneck trailer #2 in construction. Redneck trailer #3 will become the heavy hauler.

The entire roller cost me $225. It has some surface rust on the top of each rear corner bedside, and a little behind the RR tire. Missing the RH gas tank, but, not uncommon on the really old dual tank beds. Tailgate rotted for unknown reasons, but, I've got 4 in the barn to pick from and swap in, plus, the bedfloor and sides are solid and straight. A sandblast will clean them right up.

Someone actually rear ended the bumper on the trip home and cost a set of magnetic towing lights, plus the slightly bent bumper, but frame is OK. *sigh for idiots*

Also on the trip home bought the camper shell/topper. $75 with locking keys, 6 clamps, and it was about 10 miles from where the shell/hulk came from.

Bedrails were rough, and mounting bolts were rusted. Once the guy with the cap answered we could come on by we pulled into a tractor supply, pulled out the cordless Milwaukee sawzall, and chopped through the mounting bolts to slice the RH side off. Mounted the cap slightly offset, and it make the ride home including an interstate stint with no problems.

Roller has a set of gmc 15x7 rally wheels with caps and rings worth the price of admission alone, plus scrap metal and salvageable bits. Also came with a pair of 15x10 chrome wheels that have a little bit of rust. So there's plenty of odd bits and junk.

I just couldn't say no, for the price. All-in it's $300, a set of $30 towing lights, and gas. By the time it's done and the odd bits are sold it'll be free with some pocket money to spare.

It DOES have an interesting modification to the rear suspension, you can see how 'jacked' it looks compared to the c10 parked next to it... yes, it does ride higher in the rear. I'll add some pics of that tomorrow.

Looking for a quick way to polish my slots I picked up

Wheel is too big to swing and the axle is too short and large in diameter to sit on the headstock side.

Guess I need to weld a tube to the axle to make it another 3ft longerand hang it off the tailstock side with the steady rest.....

Or get a bigger lathe! 🤣

Man. Finally lmao.

I have done nearly everything ignition and fuel related work on the Caprice.

Today, saving the easiest for last. As I finally replaced the plug wires that were original GM, maybe even the ones from factory with new ones from NGK.

Also noticed for some reason one of my spark plugs was pretty damn loose, which I’m not sure how being that I replaced them recently 🤬

Honestly, not quite a huge improvement man, as the old wires were still good so they are being held on for spares.

As compared to when I installed the new lines, new pumps, new coil and the ICM swap, this isn’t much more of a difference.

The idle has gotten a tad bit quieter though.

Looks nice though 😎👌

The Jeep water pump is back on. Meet an old friend of mine, the 3/8" drive flex head ratchet. Anyone who has struggled to do spark plugs on a VW Bug knows this tool is indispensable. It also works well in the cramped confines of a Jeep engine bay. This time I will leave the fan belt loose and tighten it a bit every day until it doesn't squeal at startup. Right now I am way below the recommended spec but I will creep up on it since the pump is new and I don't want to kill it. I actually had to order a case of the old style green coolant from NAPA. They have a different color for every kind of car it seems. Green is just fine for this old POS Jeep which is almost all cast iron.............................................................IMG_0427.JPG
