Sounds like your 2016 really nailed it in the operational life department; 6 years and done. Seems to be a recurring theme with some makes and models of contemporary vehicles. They tend to work great, until they don't. And at 6 years old, when you go to the dealer for parts in the expectation of finding them available and for sale, SURPRISE!! Half of the parts in the book for it have already been obsoleted and discontinued. Don't know how many decent looking cars I have seen come into the dismantlers yard where i pick parts. Major reason is the cost to repair them and the fact that half the stuff needing attention is no longer available and not covered by the aftermarket cause its still too new Go figure.
Personal current best for me was a recent call out for a lower door latch striker plate for the third door on my truck. Parts manager looks it up and tells me it was obsoleted over a decade ago. HUH??
So I guess that the next step here is going to be how much grief are you going to face to yard out the dead coil and stuff in a another? And was this problem peculiar to you or do a lot of the CX's in the breaker's yards coming with that same problem?? Any recall or service notifications posted?? Be nice if the mfgr paid for the new coil cause the old ones came off the shelf defective.
