What did you do to your non-G Body project today [2024 edition]

yeah, I had a 04 Suburban then I was able to get back into a truck with an 08 Silverado 4x2 crew cab. both had plastic dash issues, and the 08 did suffer the AFM failure at 185k (bought it at 175k). got lucky and only had to knock the lifter loose instead of replacing the whole system, but immediately Disabled the AFM system before even starting it back up. as near as I can tell, didn't really affect fuel mileage and when it did primarily in stop/go driving

I still have the AFM lifters in. The solenoids that activate them were disabled at 18k when I had the truck tuned. I actually got better milage with them off and the rest of the tune. I know they still could be an issue but fingers crossed.

All new trucks suck. Manufacturers are too concerned on jamming 10 pounds of sh*t into a 5 pound bag. Service has become a nightmare.

Long gone are the days of a simple truck like a square body where you can actually work on the Damm things and get to parts somewhat easily.

GMT400 was peak trucks. They just needed GMT800 power trains.

Boost is a viable substitute. 😎

We sent a survey crew from our Houston office to Lampassas on Monday to work there for the week. When they got there, the truck got hot. They found the coolant reservoir empty. They got it filled back up and discovered a steady leak from the front of the truck. It's a 2020 Silverado 2500HD. It has like 75k miles. The radiator is leaking. To replace it, you have to tear down the front of the truck to get it out. You also have to evacuate the A/C and remove the condenser. The next time we're buying new trucks, we're gonna look at Fords.
Some of the previous models had transmission lines that would just pop out of the radiator because the plastic wore out due to the lines bouncing. My personal favorite is the liquid filled engine mounts that fail for no reason.

just finished a short road trip moving my daughter back to college. averaged 17.8 on the way there with a non-streamlined load and the a/c running all the way at 65mph. averaged about 16.5 on the unloaded return trip at 75mph

Fun day with Silverado. State inspection first thing just to fail due to sway bar links that both broke in the past few weeks. OK, simple & got that extended warranty. Then they refused the warranty claiming they arn't paying claims in a timely fashion followed it'll be $330. Told them I'll replace them myself & reschedule to get the sticker. Hit O'Reilly since I had a $5 coupon & had to wait for another store to send over a second link. Finally get back to the house with one too easy & one that needed cut off. Had my real Craftsman nut spliter's cutter lose it's retaining ball bearing so it won lock in. Was able to run out after & get my sticker. Makes me wish we didn't have saftey inspections until I see some of the cars with lick 'em & stick 'em's.

I had an AFM lifter start ticking at about 45k miles in my 08 Sierra. I ran it like that until 82k miles when I pulled the heads, swapped the cam and threw all that AFM stuff in the trash, where it belongs. Truck now has 227k miles on it.

my 08 Silverado crewcab (bought 6 yrs ago) is paid off with 204k miles. debating whether to keep it until it dies or trade it in for something with a few extra features.
if I keep it I'll probably need to swap out the AFM parts ($500) as all I ever did was Disable the computer.
some of the features I'd like to have are a bigger bed, bumper steps, better MPG, but looking at what's available out there I just don't trust the computer garbage and I don't want/need all the useless expensive bells/whistles
