What did you do to your non-G Body project today [2024 edition]

my 08 Silverado crewcab (bought 6 yrs ago) is paid off with 204k miles. debating whether to keep it until it dies or trade it in for something with a few extra features.
if I keep it I'll probably need to swap out the AFM parts ($500) as all I ever did was Disable the computer.
some of the features I'd like to have are a bigger bed, bumper steps, better MPG, but looking at what's available out there I just don't trust the computer garbage and I don't want/need all the useless expensive bells/whistles

If you do, don't bother with the GM AFM delete cam, it's just a lame LM7 cam. Get you one of these instead.

Supposed to be more power from an idle to redline.

Yeah, they don't build a truck I'd be interested in buying at this point.

Today was GLI service day. It's about 500kms from the 60k Km service. So that's spark plugs oil and filters. I know the dodge dealership I picked it up from did an oil change on it but didn't trust their bulk oil to meet VW spec and had a feeling it would be the cheapest filters in it possible.

I was right fram all around.

I also hate the drain plugs they put on these cars. They are a torx head and non magnetic so I swapped it out while I was in there.

Still needs a good underhood detail. That's future me problems.

I've never serviced a VW DSG Transmission and I'll let the local shop take care of that for me next week. I've done a few O2O and O2J services but they are simple manual transmissions.

Completely agree.

My work car is waiting on a hard to get part right now so I had to put Scabby Tractor to work last week. 19.6 mpg for the 1200 drama-free miles. Several mountain passes and it never even downshifted. Plus, diesel is cheaper than gas around here right now. It may be ugly, but I don't hate the results.

Interesting procedure for my C7 Corvette....as long as you have a working key fob, programming another one (second, or spare) is a 5 min procedure. If you have no working fob due to loss, or "stupidity" (in my case), then you have to use the LONG procedure which takes a mandatory 30 mins to complete. You have to wait 10 minutes 3 times in a row (I think it displays a countdown timer on dash, can't remember??) before it will accept a new remote.

Fun Fact, while only the first TWO fobs programmed can have the Driver 1 & Driver 2 memory features linked to them (seat position, steering wheel position, radio presets, etc.), you can actually program up to EIGHT fobs to the car. What in the sam hill reason could there be for that????

Back in the day when they first started with the RKE systems (late 80's, 90's...) all you had to do was ground some pigtail hanging out of the harness in the trunk or behind the glove box LOL :blam:
Fleet Vehicle application. We have them at work where multiple drivers can be assigned to one vehicle. Saves having to go through the whole business of "Ring around a rosie, who's got the D*** key now, Josie?" Technically, if not in actual use, keys are supposed to be returned to the key box but y'all know how often that happens.

Ah, never considered that type of scenario, makes sense...thanks!

20 mpg out of a 3-ton vehicle is outstanding. It really doesn't look that bad to me. I think I'd be proud to own it. I wonder how expensive it would be to get it wrapped?

Took a few minutes while the primer dried to pay a visit to the Indian Front forks and rehang them back on their triple trees. What Fun, wrestling with a shock attachment pin that wouldn't line up correctly, Looking for the chassis grease and having the forks drop out onto the basement floor. That, at least, I had planned for, or for bumps and bruises from storage so I had wrapped the forks almost entirely in heavy spec bubble wrap. The wrap did its job and no harm was done.

Turned out that both coil springs have to be dismounted in order to line up the shock in its mounting ears and slip the pin in. Then you get to wrestle the mounting studs for coil springs back into their bosses, eat your wheaties me buckos, those springs are stiff and will fight back and try to hurt you. May still have to back off and reset the preload on the one set of rocker nuts to get the right friction value for the thrust washers. Before all this work they did spin as spec'd but now with the chassis grease applied to the rocker shafts, things got a llttle tighter so some additional tweaking might be necessary. More Fun?

It had an unfortunate Maaco paint job about 10 years ago. The clear coat peeled and the previous owner had it redone. It lasted a few more months.

The body is 98% perfect and there's zero rust. I'm considering giving it a desert tan or FDE single stage repaint. It's just not near the top if the list yet.

The upside is that, aside from the carpet, the interior is really, really nice. The 2nd-gen 12 valve isn't much In the power department. But they're also damn near indestructible.

Not supposed to be overly difficult to squeeze 600 ft/lb from one.
