The trans shifter bracket (shift lever) is wrong. The one you have is for a 350th / 200m. You need one for a 200 4r. PM me... I have what you need. GrandAmMan can vouch for me and G-body_Vet bought from me before.

have you looked this link?... they have the bracket that looks identical to the one he is using listed for a 200r4 so their's must be wrong too....

pontiacgp.... I'm not blind. The shift cable bracket is correct, but the shift lever is not. I learned to see the whole picture and to think out side of the box. I may not post, but I am not a noob. As you can see, if he uses the correct shift lever everything will line up.

I misunderstood your post and I guess you misunderstood mine too...

The bracket you have and the GM bracket look identical so it looks like you have the right part. I found the diagram you posted the other day and it's the same diagram I have in my Chilton's book, look how the bracket is installed..

file.php
something about this picture doesnt seem correct...the shifter cable bracket looks different as well as the cable holder...not sure chilton is all that reliable with their illustrations ... this looks like the setup for a 200m or a 350....but it looks nothing like my set up, which may be off...but it works....just sayin

in the chilton's book it does say "typical floorshift cable control" so it may not be correct but I seem to remember it is the way my bracket went on. There is a couple of 200 r4 transmission's at the shop so this week I'll see if they still have the bracket and see which way it's installed

Yes please check that out for me please..... And when will you be going to the shop?
What I'm wundering is if the bracket IS flipped like in the picture from chilton's the cable will be even further away from the lever....

That "Chilton" photo is a pre 1978 350th set-up. If you don't believe me, look at my photo's. Also... Look at the part where it says ( VIEW OF TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER P-R-N-D-L2-L1 ). Since when did they make 200 4R's 3 speeds. It's just a generic photo to show a basic set-up.

i'll check tomorrow......the cable with be closer since the cable is attached behind the bolt hole so it you flip it around then it's like pivoting on that bolt which brings the cable closer..

If the cable bracket is flipped around and some how you manage to hook it up, the geometry will be totally wrong. So bad, if you even manage to get it in gear and cycle it through them all... by the third time the cable will brake or rod will be bent. Plus there will be so much binding.

If you use a 200M shift cable bracket (same pan bolt hole set-up as the 200 4R), it will move the cable forward maybe 1.5 inches. Check the photo's and you'll see what I'm talking about.

:wtf: :blam:

It can't be the cable I took it down and measured it, it's 29" long.....
It does loon different than the Autozone one, the lever end looks longer on the az one.
