I'm gonna guess a couple reasons:

1) the sheer numbers of models across the car lines - Buick, Chevy, Olds, Pontiac - lead to a lot more general content

2) the cars (generally) aren't that expensive, certainly not with respect to late model cars.

3) see number 2 - typically the uptight blowhard type owner in it for money hangs out more on the model specific boards (turbobuick, montecarloss, etc), and, $ for $ these days you can buy a cheaper modern car with more hp so the pretenders have moved on (used 11-14 v6 305hp mustangs around 10k anyone???)

4) finally, you've got a lot of guys here that be been around a while... I mean back... I dunno, 99, 2000 something like that I was on the mailing list... gnttype.org... one of the first montecarloss... heck, spend a while as a mod on tb.com including their "chat room"... now I'm really dating myself.

But, all along the way on those other sits you had thibgs like there were plenty of pissing battles, site ownership changes leading to cliques, the old 'we own it so all are equal but some are more equal than others' bs...

This site's stable, and has been stable. I'd stopped doing online years ago for... oh, about a decade before re-upping with a new acct here. So you get an eclectic group, some of us digital burnouts so to speak that don't give a darn about site politics/cliques and just like to shoot the breeze on cars. That's helps.

It also seems to me that the weirder the car, the more "normal" the people. By normal, I mean none of us are here to prove our egos; we all just want to learn more about what we are working on. Let me explain further- anyone can appreciate a classic A Body or a Firebird or Camaro or Mustang. You've got to be a real gear head to be passionately interested in 80s Regals and Cutlasses. If there is an AMC Gremlin forum out there, I bet those people are chill as could be too.

I think there's a ton of truth to that. A good friend of mine owns a '68 and a '70 AMX and seems like the AMX crew is chill as hell too.

I was never active on the other sites except for GBody.org and the EGroups that eventually became Yahoo groups, but I remember it being pretty chill back then, this is pushing 20 years ago too.

I think there are many factors and they've been touched on in here by one person or another.

I'm mostly in agreement due to the diversity of the group. It's hard to one up each other by someone saying their Malibu wagon is better than someone else's Regal. This is a site full of apples & oranges coexisting.

Also, it's only recently that the prices of G-Bodies are getting stupid high, and also even though there's not a huge aftermarket following like Camaros & Mustangs have, there's still more aftermarket that's come available in the recent past than any other time before. So most of us here are people who got into G-Bodies because we were on a budget & we've had to MacGyver most of the mods to our cars. That make us more humble & less elitest.

I'm hoping that the recent surge in prices & the increase in high dollar aftermarket parts doesn't bring in a new breed of "enthusiast" with huge wallets & tiny dicks who's only passion is something to prove.

My reason for being laid back is because Amazon hasn't delivered my Geritol order yet but I did receive a case of Methanol, maybe I shouldn't have used Alexa to help me order it......
