Thats a pretty chilling pic and story. Smart move on your part to boogie when you did. I wonder how many of those cars had a loaded firearm in them. It is Texas after all. Every other?

I remember those days too. I remember gas being $0.79 a gallon in 2001 for 87 octance, $0.89 for 89 octane, and $0.99 for 93 octane. I was 15 in high school driving a '83 Cutlass and a '93 Pathfinder. Those were the days.

uh ya I was in high school then and gas wasn't .79 a gallon anywhere. It was more than double that. More like 1.80-2.00. Minimum wage and inflation has gone up a LOT in the last 10 years, 3.20/gal today is not far off the mark. My high school job made 4.80 or something less than 5$/hr min wage, now min wage is around 7.25/hr.

We're not talkin 90's, that was cheap gas, still not anywhere near .79 a gallon though.

It was that cheap in my hometown, Columbus, GA. From 2000-2004 while I was in high school, gas never went over $1.35 for premium. Gas prices started skyrocketing while I was in college in 2005.

Lets see
Gas was .70ish and then the oil crisis hit, max gas allowed per fill up was $5 worth and it went over $1.25 a gallon.
Min wage was $1.55 and that hit us hard because the cars of the day averaged 12 mpg with a tailwind and when you modded them, 8 if you were lucky.
So you'd work 5 hours in a week just to make the local hot rod Saturday night hangout and back.
So I ended up working full time which then interfered with high school just to fed the car habit. Back then getting .25 from your parents was harder than pulling your own wisdom tooth.

Now we have to deal with rich people owning oil stocks that have millions all ready in the bank gouge us for more because what they all ready have they don't consider enough. Give me a million right now and I would retire and be very happy!!

Premium was 3.90 here on Friday and that's on the outskirts of the city. It's usually about .20 higher in the city. The Caddy calls for premium and I wasn't happy about the price. It costs me at least $30 just to drive it to work on Fri, Sat & Sun.

I think we're going to be in for a bad, bad summer this year.

It's all about the evil people in control playing games--- until we develope the attitude that the Egyptians have and go POSTAL --- we will never see change. Drive less is only thing we can do-- plus, do not buy from exxon-mobil--citgo.

Gas jumped 20 cents overnight! I love hearing all these "experts" drone on and on about the various "reasons" this is happening. All a load of horse manure. The scumlickers have been slowly ratcheting up the prices all year for only one reason-PROFITS!! And along comes a golden opportunity to really shove it up our cabooses. Out of the dozens of talking heads commenting on the why's and how come's, you will hear one or two actually say it- the speculators are using fear to hose us good. So much for the "market policing itself" another ruse. Where's UnderDog?!?

Be careful....big brother is always watching. You might find yourself on a no-fly list lol!

I know where you're coming from. Until people get pissed off enough to take action, we're stuck dealing with this garbage. Honestly I think people are reaching their breaking point. I could make a nice sh*t-list of everything happening that is just wrong. I'm sure we're all aware of those things though.

My old man had a 76 station in the 60's, In 1969 regular gas was 23 cents a gallon. premium was 27 cents. He had one pump that was locked except for him and his "good customers" It had 105 octane for the hot cars in town.
Those where the good old days.

Ahhh, going Postal, what a concept. I'm ex-Postal, and ex-military. The reason they go off is that they are pushed to the breaking point by incompetent/corrupt management that like to dangle your job over your head, just to see you kow-tow. Add to that there are a ton of military veterans in the PO and you have a recipe for disaster. And the PO is another horse manure factory. If you knew how many useless high paying management positions there were, you would know why they are going broke. But we have short memories. When gas hit $4 in 08' what happened? We stopped driving, dumped the SUV's, and downsized. Then when the economy tanked, gas prices dropped to $1 and the morons went right out and bought huge SUV's all over again. Gas has creeped up ever since. We never learn.

And a lot of us veterans like/own firearms as well! But anyway.....that's another story.

Nothing is worse than a piss poor management team. I'm kind of like the outcast amongst my peers at work because I still believe in leading by example. Cowardice has run rampant and it's become the preferred method of dealing with people in this day and age. Over the years I've become amazed at how people don't even have the balls to tell you anything to your face. Email has become the communication medium because it allows the spineless to speak freely.

It doesn't stop there either. I work at a college and see how technology alters socialization skills. This isn't a trend that's going away any time soon.
