Well...when I,and most of my buddies graduated from high school, we all headed to Myrtle Beach, SC for the weekend. We left at about 11am, takes about 4hrs most of the time. But this time, it took about 8! It seems that most of the state of NC high schools graduated on the same day and all of the graduates had the same idea! So, about 100 miles from the beach, we hit a major traffic jam. No wrecks...just 100,000 cars trying to get from a 4 lane divided hwy onto a two lane 35mph road that headed down to the coast. Our convoy consisted of two olds cutlasses, two Z-28s, two Toyota SR5 4x4's and about 10 other cars. The trucks were loaded down with coolers full of beer on ice and beach chairs. So, after sitting still for about 15 minutes, we all turned off the cars and just started walking around on the highway....and sharing beers with anyone that wanted one. Remember, it was 1pm in JUNE in South Carolina...NO SHADE! I then remember a lot of women walking around with bikinis on.... and the guys were down to their swim trunks and flip flops....all of the car radios were tuned into the same station....I think we were there for about an 1hr...but it seemed like several ... and we finally got the idea to move when we looked up the road and noticed that all the cars were gone!....and the ones behind us had started passing by us on the shoulders of the road yelling vulgarity at us as they went by.....Ah...to be young and foolish again....and the law man didnt care...those were good times.....

Then you'll really appreciate that way back in the day it was referred to as Ft. PUKE! :puke:

it's definitely a sh#t hole. At least all the surrounding towns, the post itself has come along way
Housing office can suck a $#@* though, won't let me even look at my car, much less work on one

Bill, that sounds like an '80s beer commercial. No Spuds Mackenzie?

We never took our dogs anywhere back then...lol...too much responsibility...lol......yeah...when I saw those ads....I figured one of the producers musta been a kid in one of those cars in the back and then they finally drove by us.......with his/her parents cussing at us...and he/she was just staring out the window....admiring the view...

Summer '09 one of my best friends and I drove from Minneapolis to just south of Tucson, AZ and back to pick up a 1970 Buick Skylark he had just bought.
Left 7 am Friday morning only stopping for food and gas.
Got to AZ early Saturday, picked up the car, turned around and headed back.
Got back into Mpls about 4 am Monday morning.
Would've been fun to take a little more time, but we still had a heck of a good time dragging the car home.

Here's one. Sometime early '80's. My Cousin getting married. Picked up my Brother in Manhattan at midnight as he got off work. Drove my '68 Firebird 400 4 speed to Masontown PA all through the night at around 80-90 mph. No cars, few trucks, NO cops. Stopped for gas and grub only once, chemicals in our heads, punk rock on the tape deck, laughing our asses off the whole way. Pulled into town just as the Sun came up- almost 500 miles in 6 hours, A NEW RECORD!

Mark, not only did you make great time but you also must have gotten some great gas mileage. My GP had a 400 in it and it was real good on gas on the highway with the 2.92 rear end

Steve I had 3:55's but yes, gas mileage was great. I find a 400 likes to cruise around 3000 rpm. I believe the torque peak is 3400 for the 3.75" stroke.

I was still in college. I had a job interview in Jacksonville, FL. The company paid my gas and hotel. I had to be down there for Friday and I found out on Tuesday. So on Thursday after class a buddy of mine made the trip.from Ohio. We made decent time. We got there a 9am just in time for the intervieo w...after driving all night. So I turned down the job then drove further south to Sarasota to my grand parents house to spend the rest of the weekend. We headed back early on the am and I wanted to make good time. I drove about1200miles in 14hours. That's averaging about 85mph with gas, food and piss breaks.
