    Grocery Getter Gottup and Gone

I miss my old wagon. I had a 78 with a tweaked 305 and the stock 2.41 gear out back. Slower than... oh well, you get the idea. Not much off the line, but it'd cruise at 100 all day. I dropped in behind a Mercedes and a BMW tag team duo going from Atlanta Ga over toward Columbia SC. They kept...

Wagon got new shoes ( Cragar soft 8 & Yokohamas)

I use the "soft eight" wheels on my 86 Monte. I run 17x8 front, 17x9 rear with Centerline chrome caps for thier Billet line. Kind of old school, NASCAR look. I dig that look on the wagon... (wish I still had mine!)

    Autocross anyone?

I actually get by with a 255/45-17 on an 8" wide wheel. It's been awhile since I put them on ,but I believe they're 4.5" backspace. I know the rear 9" wide are 5" backspace, 'cause I have to run a 1/4"spacer to prevent the tire from rubbing the inner well.

    Manual Transmission

If you're an F-body guy, then you can probably appreciate that I used the pedal assembly, hydraulics, and bellhousing from an 88 Firebird for my T-5 conversion. Other than shortening the driveshaft, it's a fairly simple swap (for someone with mechanical abilities and patience, I should say!)

    Flying Quarter Windows!!

Reminds me of a friends '84 Cutlass... the drivers side T-top panel vacated the premisis at about 80 mph. He wasn't so lucky about breakage though.

    350 small block swap

Well... if it's an "SS" then it's a 305 originally, and a 350 is a direct bolt-in swap. There's some minor variations that you might run into depending on year model of the engine, but nothing that would make life difficult.

    hydraulic clutch master install

Thats the same set-up I used.... works awesome!

My first race of '09 with the 442

The 307 may not be known for it's horsepower rating, but all of the wide V configurations (ie: Buick, Olds and Cad V8's) are great at off the line torque. Combine that with some steep gears, and you can run away from most "racecars" on the street, even if it for only about two blocks! Still a...

It just so happens... I DID play Clarinet and Saxophone in high school!

    Got some downtime

All right, I've got a few minutes of downtime at work, so I'll take this opportunity to introduce myself Hi, names Kenny, and I'm a Chevrolet fan and owner of an 86 Monte Carlo. Not an SS mind you, just a plain jane grandma model. It's currently recieving it's 4th motor (original 305, a stout...

    Stupid ricer kid

O.K., After reading some of the other posts here, I thought I'd share this for kicks. It was about two years ago, my wife and I were headed over to a local cruise. Rolling about forty down Beach, along comes this "tuned" Civic turbo. Now keep in mind that my Monte is in no way considered a...

    307 intake manifold gasket

Be sure to inspect the intake manifold around the water ports at both ends, the combination of dissimilar metals and some low quality coolants used in the eighties caused a lot of pitting and corrosion. If some minor pitting exists, a good RTV around the water ports will take care of it, but...

    march performance is crap

I've never personally used any of the March stuff, but a friend of mine did. I remember hearing him complain about fitment issues and having to grind on some of the brackets and put washers on others to get his belts to line up. Admittedly, they look great, but nothing aftermarket ever fits like...

    1978 Malibu header recommendation

Keep in mind that these cars were mass produced, and have several rubber parts supporting various components so the exact dimensions of those "tight" spots vary from car to car. I'm sure that every header manufacturer strives to create a product that fits the application, it's hard to do when...

01' S10 Steering box - Will it work?

I know that the 82-93 S-10 box will bolt up, but I'm not 100% sure about the newer body style truck box. I think they will bolt on, but wouldn't bet money on it. If it's cheap enough to experiment, it might be worth it. But I'd hesitate to make a major investment.

ok here we go alot of ???????

I personally like the BMR Fabrication rear control arms, with the adjustable uppers, and BFG Drag radials. A 275/60-15 on an 8" or 8.5" will usually clear with some minor rolling of the fender lips.

    hydraulic clutch master install

I used the master cylinder from an 88 firebird, along with the pedal assembly from the same car. I switch to the hydraulic slave kit from Howe Racing on the other end, the F-body slave sits too close to the header collectors causing the fluid to boil and get spongy pedal. The Tremec doesn't have...

    Monte carlo ss

I've lived in J-ville Florida for all my life, and I've never had an A/C car. I've always pulled the stuff, 'cause I can't stand to ride with the windows up! The only issue I regret is no defrost function, 'cause I delete the box, ductwork and everything else. It's all about you're personal...

I want to do a rear disc conversion and NEED ADVICE

I've got a complete package, including e-brake and cables that I plan on putting under my 86 Monte. I got the complete set up from a 99 S10 Blazer. I'll have to let you know if they work or if there's any fitment issues. Looks like it should be a simple and straight forward swap (looks can be...

What would you choose for performance? (Voting and Questions

I'd have to say blown small block. (That's what I'm building!) Big block torque, in a dependable small block package with tremendous WOW factor.
