BUILD THREAD 86 GP 2+2~Blown 6.0

Had the urge to get to the track and try out my suspension tweaks I made this winter.

With having the baby in April, I haven't had the chance to make it to the track. Had an opening last night and took it. I was shooting for a 10.99 considering I ran a 11.10 last fall wadding the tire up and some opportunities to improve.

Results? A bit lackluster. There was little to no track glue down because it was a 'street' night and I couldn't get a bite out of the hole. I was launching at 4800rpm last fall, I dropped down to 3600rpm and it still blitzed the tire hard. Didn't matter how much I took out of the hit or slowed the clutch apply down, as soon as the clutch grabbed and the 2 step turned off it blitzed the tire. I pedaled every time.

At least it was consistent. Didn't miss a single shift. Still .3 seconds slow in the 60ft. Usually it 1.58-1.65 so 1.85-2.0 was a bummer. They say a tenth in the 60ft is 2 tenth in the 1/4. If I could chop off .6s I'd be at 11.50 again.

I was also down 7 mph. My timing was neutered because I got a watered down tank of e85 (I was at 47%), the DA was about double what I am used to running in, and my IAT was unexpectedly high.

I still had fun, did a 300 mile round trip and no major mechanical failures.

It will be better in the fall. If you had fun, that's what it's all about.

Finally got around to processing and analyzing my gopro footage from BIR a few weeks ago

Basically between last fall where I ran the 11.10 and last outting where i ran a 12.09
-I had 20% less ethanol, e65 to e45
-I had 4 degrees less timing because of the bad ethanol content
-I had 30 degree warmer IAT post blower, 175 peak to 205 peak
-I was sticking 4800 rpm on the launch last fall, I had 3400 in last outting and still ripped the tire off not much outta the hole

G body #4. Yikes!

Almost done with engineering school and wanted to play around on the HAAS CNC mill and maybe design and sell a blower manifold for LS engines. Project didn't go through but I had most of the parts so I am continuing. Bought a 6.0 for $200 this spring, GT500 blower, ect. Was destined for a C4 vette.

2+2 came up for sale and was perfect for the goal of a road race kinda car. Probably go t56 eventually.

Car was from the original family. Spend most of its life in Texas and came to MN in the mid 90's. Blew up in 97 and got a 350 swapped in that never ran right. Mice got in the interior in the meantime and the owner kinda moved on.

Body is great minus a dent in the drivers fender and passenger quarter. No real rust from what I can see. Still need to do an inventory on the interior to see whats gone. Needs work but I can definitely do something with it.

And the engine that is going in.
i dont think i ever seen 1 of those in the wild, i'm more likely to find a bigfoot. nice find

Since I am kinda out of projects, thought I would tackle one that I have had on my long to do-list.

Replacing the very old and smokers lung looking reservoirs. Finally bought a set from Mike's.

Monte SS has one style and Turbo Buick has one style and BOP V6/V8 cars have another style. MCSS and Turbo buick are the only styles repopped. Not a huge deal, the only difference between BOP and Turbo buick is rear vs mid mount, but mid mount should actually be better at the drag strip as coolant won't be as likely to slosh out.

Overall the kit is pretty good, definitely cleaned up the engine bay. My one complaint is the washer reservoir cap on the repop tank is 1/8" hose where the OEM one is 3/16 maybe 1/4. The OEM suction hose for the window washer is too big for the new lid, so unless I ran all new hose it wouldn't work. My OEM lid was fine, I just cleaned it up and used a paint pen to re-finish the lettering that had worn off.

Diddly squat update #372.87

Bought a 97-99 monte remote keyless entry module damn near a year ago. Finally mounted it and it works good! Nice to have remote lock and unlock

Changed oil last night and went to back it off the ramps and the clutch was dead. WTF???

Poked around and I had a big leak out of the hydro TOB. Pulled the trans, and took the TOB apart and found the front oring on my howe T5 TOB kit was totally shot. Spiral failure.

Also had some pitting on the cylinder, not sure if it is contamination or wear or parts quality issues.

I have a seal kit that I can just put it back together, but the pitting on the sleeve worries me and makes me think it's going to wear quickly again.

Anyway I ordered a new slave and a new tilton master to replace my T5 Camaro OEM master.
