BUILD THREAD 87 Cutlass EFI build: 9/13/23..NEW STUFF!

The 2025 Calendars are HERE. Two different editions, two different sizes, and a digital package!! Starting at $12.97US
As requested by Donovan and a few others, i slid the front cover on this morning just for a photo op. I'm real happy with how it looks, and will look once assembled all the way!

Also, i was able to be home alone for a little bit....so i got the oil galley plugs installed, crank sensor bolted down, and installed the rear cover after lubing up the rear cam bearing. As suggested, i had my straight edge handy to ensure the cover was aligned to the pan rails on the block. No need for the feeler gauge, it's dead nuts on level! That is where i had to stop for the day....not a whole lot accomplished, but better than nothing i suppose. I did have to spend some time cleaning bolts and sensors i forgot to clean the other day.

Looking good. You do realize if you didn't clean and paint everything, you'd get more done faster, right? Lol.

Funny you say that Donovan! I almost took a pic of the rear cover next to the block, but backed out. Unfortunately, my time has expired on the LS for the day.

I did untape it before moving it back to its spot in the shed. I will let the paint dry all the way before i mess with it, sorry guys🙂
My dad says the paint is dry as soon as it comes out of the can.😛

Everything I paint has fingerprints in it 🙁

Well guys, the next LS purchase has arrived. After going back and forth on flexplate options, my eyes started hurting from reading so much. I ended up ordering a summit brand SFI unit that feels pretty beefy and should fit the bill. Did i need an SFI unit....eh maybe not, but it gives me the peace of mind when boost enters the equation.

Down the road i will most likely need a crank spacer to work with a 4l80 converter, but I'll cross that bridge when it comes. I wanted to be able to bolt the flexplate on so i can use this nifty flexplate holding tool Jared loaned me which aides in balancer and balancer bolt assembly. The dang ARP bolt has to be tightened to 235 ft/lbs 😱!!! I guess i better eat my Wheaties next week lol!

That's actually less torque than the factory bolt if I remember right. Be sure and use the ARP Ultratorque that comes with the bolt. Great stuff. It's worth it to buy a can of it. Also, you'll want a helper to help steady the engine stand so you don't turn it over torquing that bolt.....

Agreed on the arp lube, i usually keep some on hand...both the balancer bolt and cam bolts came with a tube so it will definitely get used. Yeah, i will have either one of my buddies come over to hold it, or get my gearhead neighbor....easier to walk across the street. Thanks Jared for the tips.
