BUILD THREAD 87 Cutlass EFI build: 9/13/23..NEW STUFF!

I alluded earlier today that i had some lights taped up in prep for paint. Well, the humidity was down and the parts were ready, so i went to town getting satin black on the taillights, reverse light, and fixed the run on the taillight surround.

I had to do some improvising to mount the reverse lights, so i used my trusty ole 3/4" pvc and made a quick outdoor redneck paint booth....

Once primed, the satin went flying as i didn't have much time due to prior cookout commitments which involved some :friday:lol!!!!

I got lucky because as i was finishing i ran out of paint(dumb me for not picking up another can this week). All in all, I'm super happy again with the results. This has been a pretty productive week, and hopefully the momentum continues since i have more lights to address!

Anywho, here are some pics of the results...

Lookin' slick Scott!
Can't wait to see them all put together, even if it's just mockup for pictures.
🙂
Keep up the fine work my friend!

Thanks D! I've been open ears taking in advice on better ways to execute and it's paying off!

I'm hoping later today i can put the taillight assemblies back together for good until they go on the car. They've been apart long enough....now if the cutlass can get painted before long and i can bolt em back on the car i will be stoked!!!

can't believe I never made it through this thread before... kinda catching up on alot that I've missed lately, and glad I came to yours!

lovin the build, and wished I had the patience you, donovan, jack ,and jared have!
I do have a question about the bumpers... what did you do to prep them for paint?Did you sand them down, or have the chrome chemically stripped? I plan on painting mine on the Buick as well, but will keep it under wraps on what I plan for them for now....

keep up the great work, and I too hope to see it in color soon!

Thanks Darin, no worries about missing the thread. I miss some from time to time, then kick myself in the tail for it lol!

The patience for attention to detail is something I've acquired over the years. When the first engine swap occurred it was very messy, wires all over the place, different shades of orange and red lol! But it worked and drove like a bat out of hell!

In regards to the bumpers, after removing the bumperettes and welding the holes in, the metal work was ground smooth, then sanded with 180 or 220 if i recall. We have quite a bit of time spent on them so that when painted they are slick! There is a couple very light skimcoats of filler to achieve the look I'm going for!!!

Thanks for taking the time to go through the thread....i tend to skip and jump around sometimes trying to stay busy on different parts of the car to not get bored!

The plan is to have the cutlass back in the bodyguys garage in the next week or two, and shooting for spraying the rest of the color I'd say august sometime, fingers crossed!!!!

Can't wait to see your car in the paint booth buddy!
