Check it out, all original from what I knowCould it be getting confused for the oil/choke light? Little oil can symbol maybe, or, at least it's what it looks like on an 83 gbody I've got here.
Or, could someone have swapped a later gauge cluster into it and have gotten a check engine symbol on the plastic printed slip in the housing, and thus, maybe illuminating something else?
Thank you78 G bodies would not have had computers yet. 1980 was the first year for computer control and only in Cali, 1981 for the rest of the US.
Check this outNo Check Engine light or even computer in a '78 Monte Carlo. Only warning lights are as following for a 305 2bbl car:
Warning light only, Oil, Temp, Volt/Battery in the middle with the fuel gauge & Bright, Brake, Fasten Seatbelt on the side stack.
Gauge dash, only Bright, Brake, Fasten Seatbelt on the side stack.
I'm going to stand by my original guess of oil/choke light. Also, later clusters use the same layout, just renaming the pods:Check it out, all original from what I know
