Hey everyone, I removed the cap and rotor. They look clean and the contacts look nice. But.... where the heck are the weights and springs??

What else do I remove to get to them?

Also, where can I get these big vacuum lines??

OK, you do not have a vacuum advance distributor. It is computer controlled. So no counterweights or springs. You can get new vac hoses at any auto parts store. As far as your issue, I do not have the experience with the computer controlled carb and distributor to give you much help.

Looking at the distributor, it doesn't look like it has weights(and springs) that move. I thought the same thing...computer controlled distributor.
I guess '82 would fall into the computer controlled carb and distributor use.

You could convert to an earlier year HEI distributor and pre-CCC carb. I would first try to get your current combination running properly and then go to plan B.
Replacing some of those old and dried out vacuum hoses would be a step in the right direction.

Thank you all for the help so far. I will replace those rotted vacuum lines and re-assemble the cap and rotor. Since the distributor is computer controlled and not mechanical, I assume it is unlikely to be the problem? If the vacuum lines being replaced does not solve the problem, what should I do next? I was thinking my next plan of attack would be to replace the fuel filter, check plug condition, and then remove the catalytic converter?

Edit: converting the car to non-computer controlled carb and distributor sounds like a good summer project, but to get me through the cold weather I'd like to get the original components operating well for now.

Not sure if this is normal or not... but some gas trickled out of the vacuum lines when I disconnected them.
