Well, finally replaced the fuel filter. Picture of the old included. It's running better, still not 100%. Also, Is the vacuum hose in the picture in the right spot? It's connecting from the bottom of the carburetor back to the top. I'll also include a picture.

Ok, I connect a and b with a paper clip, then I get a code 12. After that, how do I tell what each session of flashes (codes) mean?

Is a 12 all you get?

As I recall, each code will display 3 times before the next code

if i remember correctly the first number will be long flashes and the second number will be quick flashes. so a code 14 will be one long flash followed by 4 short flashes.

OK that helps me a lot. The bulb is burnt out so first I'll have to swap one in. So it's key on engine off and I'm jumping "A" and "B" with a paper clip??

sounds about right. been alot of years since i have had to check anything obd 1 and older.my malibu wagon is an 81. it already came with a non electronic quadrajet. i swapped the distrubutor to regular hei vacuum advance and pulled the ecu out .with a 305 th350 and 3.08 gears on 275/60/15's i average around 19-20 on the highway. i will not complain with that at all. may not be fast but it is reliable.
