I didn't research beyond. It was a guess how the numbers were interpreted just to come up w/the possible 'matches'.Looking at the specs of the 3 possible options were they all the same or different specs ?
Actually wanted to maybe upgrade the cam...been looking at this 1785 cam and lifter kit for this 305 of mine from Summit... https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-k00172#qanda
They say it's an easy install in a stock 305 motor, but I'm not too sure with the way this 305 is turning out to be a mystery Frankenstein engine...
Rechecked the engine block number on the engine last night again and just realized this was orginally an 80-84 2 bolt 305 block, but the head casting numbers say the heads are from a 305 H.O. motor...
I've always chosen the Red Pill...Your thinking pattern has you firmly @ the entrance to the 'Rabbits Hole'.
Proceed @ your own risk....
Ultimately, you could be just guessing brands...I didn't research beyond. It was a guess how the numbers were interpreted just to come up w/the possible 'matches'.
Three possible options just narrows down the guessing but it's still guessing.
You're missing the point.... I had to GUESS @ the numbers in the first place.Ultimately, you could be just guessing brands...
If the number brought up 3 different branded cams of the same specs, you're only guessing brands which doesn't really matter...
But if the numbers brought back 3 different cams of 3 different specs, and 3 different brands, then you're "guessing" and should probably swap it so you can stop guessing and actually "know"...
The oil leak...So we're still doing all this because you had your tach set wrong and can't tune the POS Edelbrock? Or was it the oil leak? Sure, a new cam should solve all your problems. Y'all need an Adderall.
Maybe I am missing the point... But yea I'm thinking the same about the camshaft...You're missing the point.... I had to GUESS @ the numbers in the first place.
It wasn't like there was a BR-549 (pun intended) on the back of the cam that allowed me to google that exact number. There were stampings in the end of the cam. They were from @ least >10yrs ago & difficult to decipher exactly what it was I was reading. Based on what we could see (I had others try to interpret the pic I took) we searched but nothing I found was an EXACT match. So, I had to try & guess & of the three possibilities, they weren't the same. I didn't NEED to know. I wanted the info to help w/calculations. If I was pulling a cam, it wouldn't be to ID it; it would be to replace it.
I'm starting to think you should definitely pull yours though.
That's all.Maybe I am missing the point... But yea I'm thinking the same about the camshaft...
Especially while I'm already here at it in my face, all I need to do is remove my intake and passenger side valve cover...
I'm just being honest with you. Take it as negativity if you want. If you think someone suggesting that a "girls car" makes more sense at this point in your life than your current money/time suck is a personal attack, you aren't being honest with yourself. The oil leak...
Lol... and why are you such a negative nancy sometimes ?
I'm not expecting a new cam to fix all my problems, never insinuated that while talking of a new cam...
I appreciate whatever advice you have that has helped me along the way, but if your not wanting to help a newbie and want to discourage me by encouraging me to quit and buy a girls car, while I'm obviously doing the best I can without complaining working with what I have, why even bother commenting ? ... 🤔🧐🤷🏾♂...
Being honest? Sounds like a personal opinion...I'm just being honest with you. Take it as negativity if you want. Do whatever you want. I look forward to your 36 page thread on belt replacement that ends up as a transmission rebuild.
Carry on.
