Is the fan, water pump, and harmonic balancer the only things I remove to get to the timing chain cover ?

They say it's an easy install in a stock 305 motor, but I'm not too sure with the way this 305 is turning out to be a mystery Frankenstein engine...

Rechecked the engine block number on the engine last night again and just realized this was orginally an 80-84 2 bolt 305 block, but the head casting numbers say the heads are from a 305 H.O. motor...
I have a car that the block codes to a 1972 passenger car 350, and the head castings are 305 HO numbers.

Unless you know the history of the engine, the numbers mean nothing, as rebuilds can be assembled in a myriad of combinations.

The fact that it has a serpentine drive setup tells me that it's been dorked-with by somebody making it "better".

IMO, based on the short video we were presented with, the cam is a stocker, or close to it. If you really want to change the cam, do so, but you should really have an honest discussion with yourself about what you want and need from the engine. Stabbing a random cam in without making a plan is a good way to spend a lot of money re-doing things that weren't fully thought out.

As an aside, I too was once the guy that said I'd never own an import. Couple of years ago, I bought an ex-fleet Scion XB from a customer for $500. Been using it as a commuter for my daily 35 mile each way commute....at 35 MPG, it has paid for itself and then some. Still love my old domestics, but hard to argue with the economy of the toaster.

Tynan918, this thread has been one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point during any of your rambling, incoherent responses have you said anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this forum is now dumber for having seen it.

I get the frustration. This platform is for sharing knowledge. He is going to learn— as we all have— that some things aren’t worth the effort.

Let’s support each other. I have gotten caught up in wanting to build a car with Champagne taste and a Beer budget.

joesregalproject nothing personal, just trying to speak up a bit when a comment isn’t right.

Well your right, I know nothing without knowing the history of this engine...good thing I'm wanting to get inside of it and see the history and possible myriads in it...that way, when I'm done, I'll be more than familiar with my engine.

Honestly, since I'm going this far, I might as well give it a street/strip setup...mostly street daily driving of course, but also a little more and a choppy idle...

I'm considering what my engine and heads are and there condition and specs before I decide to buy and stab a camshaft I consider after research in there...
