What did you do to your G-Body today? [2011-2018]

I pulled my boat out today with the wagon. As soon as I got it on the trailer and headed home- a metallic screeching noise started coming from under the car. It went away as soon as I touched the brakes. Tapping the parking brake did nothing so I guess it's in the fronts. It sounds like when the wear indicators start squealing, but 10 times worse. I had just swapped rims around and I had eyeballed the pads- they were fine. Something must have broken. I prayed all the way home that nothing would let go and strand me with a boat and trailer in tow! Luckily I made it, now I have to investigate.
Good luck with the investigation. Hopefully it is something minor. How was the car on the boat ramp with the lower rear gear?

wonder if one of the hex bolts fell out and the caliper was rubbing on the rotor....

It was a lot better over the road trailering. The 3:23 gears make a huge difference. But getting up the ramp was still an issue. I posted the same thing on a Whaler board and got some good ideas. I use 4x4 blocks of wood for wheel chocks just in case the parking brake fails. They are tied together with a rope so as I go up the ramp they follow me and don't get in the trailer's way. So when I let go of the parking brake I noticed the car settled against the chocks and I was able to pull away pretty well. I was always afraid to let the car roll backwards since the water is right there. A guy suggested why not get better chocks and use them to kind of "stage" against, and pull away at my leisure. Makes sense. I just need to find some big industrial chocks that will absolutely hold the car and boat with no brakes applied.

It has been raining cats and dogs all day. There was a lull and I jacked up the front end. Yup, it is a brake pad wear indicator squealing away. I knew it sounded something like that, but I never let my brakes get that bad. It was LOUD! How do these idiots ignore that ?!? Anyway I missed it when I changed the wheels because the outer pad is in great shape. It's the INNER pad that is shot and it was out of sight. I wonder if I have a caliper issue that caused the uneven wear? Luckily I have a spare set of severe duty pads I got at a RockAuto closeout. Freaking things look like they were used and put back in the box. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers.

I have had the inner pad wear like that when I have had a stuck/sticky caliper piston. Might want to check it out. Also, had similar behavior when I had a collapsed brake hose.

I thought so too, but shouldn't a caliper grab from both sides evenly? And even if sticking, shouldn't it wear both pads out? Why just the inside? Not arguing, just trying to understand. The only time I had a stuck caliper, it wouldn't actuate. I guess this one won't retract? I used new calipers when I screwed this car together, but that was 10 years ago.

I would check for corroded sliders pins on the calipers.

Right I would also think it would wear evenly but that is just what I observed both times. The inner pad was worn completely down and the outer pad had lots of thickness left. I think, in my case at least, it may have been a combination of sticking caliper, collapsed hose, and corroded slide pins as 565 said.

Due to poor planning on my part I had to drive my heap in the rain to work today. No sooner at work then I got called downtown, then up to Newmarket and rush back across the city to mu shop by the Airport. Probably the most I have driven the car all summer in one sitting. And it rained all bloody day ! It was fun and scary all at the same time LOL I DD an AWD van which you point and shoot in any weather condition so driving the Monte in the rain takes some "re-acquaintance" 😉

I got mt back window in and sealed up.

Blew the dash apart and added LED bulbs.
