What Did You Do To Your G-Body Today? [2020]

Drove it to work today. In the heat of summer, I am driving it less than I would like due to not having A/C. Hopefully, that will change soon. I got a nice condition A/C dashboard with ducting, wiring harness, and airbox about three weeks ago. I want to order a new gasket set for it, and try to get it installed before summer is over. From a couple of other posts I have read, it seems that I should also order up a new air dryer also, because the system has been opened up. One of the main lines looks like it was cut with a large bolt cutter.

What have I accomplished today, for the few short hours that I could work on the Malibu. Being that I got more Sun and more red the last time I did something to the car I had to work in the Shade when the sun moved the other side of the trailer.

I took out both Taillights and Cleaned them up with Oven Cleaner. You don't want know how much dirt and grime came out of those. I also remove the Passenger Side Taillight extension. As you know the original had a hole in it. I bought one from O.D.Showtime (Kevin). Anyway I am not sure what the cover held on with screws is called (Second Picture: goes over the top of the Taillights) but I took them off only to find out someone had primed over them when I cleaned both of them off. I am just going to go ahead and repaint them black to make the Trunk more Uniform.

I put the new Taillight extension on that i had bought from Kevin. Already had it pre-painted which in a way was a mistake but it'll work out. I will have to buy some Seam Sealer take the piece off again and Seam Seal the line. On the inside corner of the trunk where the piece bolted in I found some surface rust that I sanded and Rust Treated.

I re-primed the area's of the door that had trouble drying. Using what I had left of the Dupli-Color Filler Primer. I still see a few spots of scrape lines I missed that need more sanding but this is far better than what it was. A few more coats there after, alittle more light touch hand sanding and it'll be good for paint very soon.

While I was at it for the short day light time I had left. I peeled back the Trunk liner and vacuumed the trunk like there was no tomorrow. Surprisingly I find that there is only a small amount of surface rust where the Spare Tire sat. I am going to hit that with a bit of sanding and Rust Treatment. I will then be spraying this area of the Trunk with Truck Bed Liner that should prevent any rust building in the Trunk.

That's all I could do in 4 hours time. I will have to get the Rear bumper off. I ended up spraying some Penetration Fluid on the bolts that I am going to leave over night and try to get the bumper off tomorrow if not the next day. Still healing a bit from getting sun burned but I have some shade to work with.

I would get a new orifice tube and o rings also. I used an air compressor to blow out the lines, condenser, and evaporator when the system was open. When you get everything replaced and sealed make sure you vacuum it and leave it sit for a day or so to make sure it's sealed before adding your refrigerant and oil.

Washed it, checked the trans fluid, changed the oil on the neighbor's lift, then hopefully, hitting the track tonight. Need some tree practice/seat time for Beaver Springs BOP race next weekend.

Don't let off the throttle on the wheel stand , hold it to the floor good and watch the centerline

I took the GP out for a test and it is running awesome, the transmission shifts better then ever and the fast system worked real nice. I wasn't happy with the manual brakes however, pedal too hard and too much effort is needed so I'll have to figure that out...

For those of you curious, here's a video my dad shot of me running my car on the dyno.

Recap: Not chasing any number, it made 247hp/274ftlbs to the tire that day, very hot and humid. Peak power at 5k. torque was measured around 2700rpm, give or take. 37hp and 9ftlbs better than my previous engine. Specs are in the video description, nothing special. Just what is a buick version of a 300 horse small block.

Rewatching a couple times (for fun), that black poot could be once the secondaries open theyre too rich. That's my guess. That pull was to 5k (best power) and the previous test run he said the air doors didnt open till 4300rpm, so there may be something to that.
