Clean factory-ish BBC install.

Long beds are just a snip/tuck away from being shortys.
Hahaha, I would try to sell him on that but he wanted a long bed

Finished rebuilding my tilt column. Went in and tightened and loctite’d the torx head bolts. Added grease to all bearings. Refreshed turn switch and changed to new reset springs. New horn contact, ignition switch and neutral safety switch. Installed the all black levers and it’s ready to go in the car in a few days or so.

Works great on paper. It's disappointing when it sneezes at the sight of a hill. 3.42s are a good ratio- peppy without being obnoxious.
I have a 2.73 axle sitting around, but it needs gone through. I may make a pull-a-part trip to find an F-body or S-10 3.08 gear set eventually, but work owns me for 12 hours a day right now so I will just deal with it for a while.

I picked up some vacuum Timing limiters to perform a little experiment After I flush the coolant in the jetta today
mount them ahead of the peg on the vac. cannister. Mounting it behind like the directions say preloads the spring. I did mine in front and it limits it to 8* of vacuum advance, got about 42* cruising.

Took the Pig out for some site visits today. It's had an upper engine tap since the bracket race back in July. Rebuilding it just isn't on the agenda, so I threw a quart of Rislone in it a while back ("quiets noisy lifters, frees stuck rings and valves since 1921"). That worked marginally, but the tap returned. As a refresher, I have the ZZP oil pressure spring and piston kit installed, and that suggests a switch from 10w to 5w-30. The tap would get worse as it warmed up, so I figured it was a viscosity thing. My buddy was cleaning out his garage and gave me 2 gallons of Rotella 10w-30. So, I threw a quart in to top it off plus a half. Today, I got tangled up with an E320 on 95, so she got her 14th or 15th Italian Tune Up holding 5500 for a triple digit blast. Guess what? The tap is gone! Next oil change gets the Rotella.
