After being in a 100° shop all day and getting absolutely no where I've decided I'm not working on anything else after this I'm seriously considering scraping all the cars. I'm a heavy collision body man I'm not an engine builder I'm not a diesel mechanic I'm not a Machinist and I don't have reliable help so there's really no point trying. I have 4 Oldsmobiles I can't drive I bought Lexi a Camaro she can't drive a I've got a square body that's not safe to drive and I'm making truck payments and a truck I just payed a shop $3400 so I can't drive it. I'm done! I can't even pay someone to help with this junk il ride a bike!

Had I seen this before it sold I'd have given you the heads up:

Having said that, take a step back for a couple hours. Eat a good dinner, you've been so busy lately I'm sure you've eaten like crap. Get a good night's sleep for once.

The Oldsmobiles aren't going anywhere, as far as I know they're not in the way or a problem, other than you'd like to work on em.

Squarebody hasn't hurt anything where it sits either. Sure you'd love to use it, but, you haven't gotten around to finishing it off. Again, it's frustrating, but, not harmful.

That camaro you got I *thought* was getting its final stuff sorted out at a mechanic after having sat many years? Some bad news on that front we haven't heard?

Now your current dmax... well, she's a different beast altogether. I'd stuff the olds engine stuff in a closet or under a bed and ignore it, just go after the dmax because you've got no other choice on it. It's apart. It needs to go back together. Even if you said F-it, fact is especially with a loan on it if it's not together you pay through the nose on a deficiency judgment. So that one is more F-it just get the SOB done. When it's together you shouldn't have an engine issure on your daily truck to worry about for years, which will be nice. All things pass, this included. Just worry about *your* truck and put all those other projects aside.

You're a good dad for trying to get the kid her first car, but, you need to worry about YOU first. If you go get a heart attack, or institutionalized, then there's no breadwinner, no house, no food, etc. So whatever first job or whatever she's got where she needs a car for her, it will wait. It has to.

Just take care of the dmax first. Ignore all the other demands, nothing there aside from YOUR job that can't wait or someone else can't pick up the slack.

Anyone got a need for 94-95 Impala/Caprice/Roadmaster, Who-the-f**k-knows-what-this-fits Sun Visor Mirror Air Bag Decal? It may cover other vehicles too, just not sure. I don't do much of any of it forward of 1988.

I've recreated it for someone with a 94 Impala SS and rather than just print out 2 while I'm doing this, I can make several at a time.

$5 for the pair, shipped to you in the U.S. Personal Check or USPS Money Order only, sorry, no pay pal or any of that 3rd party crap anymore.

No big deal if you don't, but hey, figured I'd ask. Not sure where to put this, but, there you go. It's not really a G-body part.

I also have 94 Impala SS door jamb decals and SPIDs in case anyone needs any of those.

C5 driveline update.

Mmkay, did a few things today. First I went to Harbor Freight and got some adult snap ring pliers.

PXL_20220716_190918107.MP.jpg

I fought that m'fer for a good 30+ minutes last night to no avail. 2 squeezes of the proper tool and that hell spawn was out. Torque Tube innards looked good, only the rear bearing was gone but I think I'll just do both and reinstall with the not destroyed factory guibos. Next I decided I had to go back to Harbor Freight for more not broken snap ring pliers and this unit I've been staving off for far too long.

PXL_20220717_012426495.MP.jpg

With this in place, I got the mainshaft licked clean. Then I had a revelation: that C6 T56 on the ground has a Corvette mainshaft in it, presumably with half the miles of mine, and I don't have a use for it once I convert it to F-body status so onto the bench it went because of some mess is good, more mess is better.

PXL_20220717_030031353.MP.jpg

The 5/6 driven gear looks good, but the shaft seems to be ever so slightly worn. I don't think the pic captures it but the loaded side looks different than the unloaded side and the gear goes on and off by hand, but isn't hammered like mine. I could probably get a few good years out of this, or I could get a good shaft in there and save a whopping $100 by merely stealing this driven 5/6 gear. An aftermarket short 5/6 was always destined for this C6 box so no loss there. Check out this reverse though, it's impeccable!

PXL_20220717_030317899.MP.jpg

This is the first T56 I've taken apart that had the carbon blocker there for reverse AND didn't have a reverse hub that was absolutely destroyed. I may steal this for mine for now and kick the expense down the road for putting it back into this box. So next I guess I'll try and get this diff apart to see what all's tore up inside it.

Hey, Clutch, welcome to my world. The Monte is back under it's cover for who knows how long while I deal with the S-10. For it's part the S-10 not only needs a complete front end brake job including the hard lines to the ABS block, it also has exhaust pipe issues and at least one box panel that is starting to display acne in the vicinity of an old repair, as well as needing all its seasonal maintenance as my daily driver. The van is on the road but its IAC software subroutine is driving me nuts because I can't get the idle at rest to drop low enough, fast enough, to let the engine shut down without trying to diesel. IAC value has to be consistently well below 9 across the temperature range and while I can get it to 5, it won't stabilize itself there; and gas for the van is 10.00/gallon up, and it has all the aerodynamics of a brick made from jello.

I have a complete wheel assembly waiting at the border for me for my vintage Harley but border crossing protocols still demand Covid Checks and both sides of the line have Federal Departments of Health that are so paranoid that the rules aren't likely to be amended until this current panic about variant BA-5? has passed; (Like it is going to be the last variant, y'know...)

I can' find the parts necessary to mount the two-up seat assembly for my other ride, a 47 Indian, and the stock seat bracket does not accept the larger seat pan; and is not easily or practically modifiable even if you can find one.

Apart from all this, I have a vegetable garden that is so overgrown with grass that all the rhubarb has gone to seed, the house trim needs to be repainted, and the A/C wall unit for the day room needs to be removed so that the window can be rebuilt.

Finally, if I am lucky, I can get about 4 hours of work time from my body before most of the muscles start to go on strike for better working conditions. As for your 100 degrees in the shop, I do agree that is pushing the heat limits, particularly if it isn't air conditioned. The sun does not hit my main door until after 4 so incoming heat is not so much of an issue. That A/C unit from the house was supposed to be moved into the garage 7! years ago which sort of explains how backed up I am, LOL.

Summarily, you can never have too many projects, the problem is too little time and too many diversions. As frustrated and p*ssed as you may feel, you WILL get them all done, just be aware that you are, as are we all, the ongoing target of Mr Murphy and his insidious plots to cause Sh*t to happen and at the worst possible time. DUCK and Cover, here he comes again!!

Just replaced the 44-year old front sway bar end links on my 1978 Delta 88. The originals were rotted and deformed. Next up is the original thermal clutch fan on the 403.

Yeah it's all ugly. I canceled Lauren's 16th birthday party because the house is in no shape for teenagers and both the pool and hot tub are empty because I don't have time to fix them. I did manage to catch my boss in a parking lot this morning and give him a warning of what's going to happen if the Camaro isn't back finished tomorrow. After I abruptly got his undivided attention he realizes how serious the situation is. I only went to the shop this morning because I left my good bifocals on my tool cart and wore my shop glasses home. Somehow I locked my shop keys in my office yesterday but I learned a a young age how to open doors. Now that I'm home with my glasses he's been in contact with me and the car will be at alignment tomorrow. That means she will have it Tuesday. Only a week late we'll 3 if you count the time EJ had it and the time I was working on it. But it's one thing off my plate. I still don't understand why I need to offer to introduce people to God to get things done I'm paying for.

*sigh*

In my younger days after all that BS there wouldn't be any charge on the alignment work, ESPECIALLY for a valued employee.

I can remember back when I was leaving New Orleans, just as a customer at a shop, they knew I was leaving and why, and all that was on my plate. It was my old firebird. They got the alignment straight, but, they said it wouldn't last real long due to the slop in the worn parts. No charge, good luck, sent me on my way.

Plenty of stories like that back when people helped each other. The world we live in now...
Time to build a commune/compound for the like minded I think.

Communes and Compounds both have bad public relations and reputations attached to them. if you are going assemble a congregation, two immediate possibilities commend themselves.

First is to become a developer and create your own gated community and populate it with, as you say, like minded individuals. The necessity attached to this is picking and choosing Very Carefully as, while your neighbours might share your love for cars, they might not share your politics or social perspectives and that can cause trouble. The ideal iteration of a gated community here would be one built around a drag strip or road course. People build them around golf courses; there's your precedent.

The second option is to literally assemble a congregation. Groups of individuals come together for some of that old time religion all over the country. Get yourself a mail order pastors license, and take some courses on line from a website divinity school for sake of looking legit, and create a group based on a belief in the need for speed. With an assembly or congregation you can do a property search and find some back country land, or a defunct townsite or village, and resurrect it. All you really need in that department is a crossroads for the gas station, post office, general store and a indie speed/machine shop. A solar farm will give power and keep you off the grid plus drive the pumps for your water plus purify it. You don't need a church, a large field or plot of land and a tent are the basic tools of the fundamentalist preacher brigade. You might even get lucky and find a preacher that is a speed freak and understands the whole "Go Faster, Quicker, philosophy.

Understand that I am only slightly tongue in cheek here. The idea is viable; it is the successful execution of it and all the myriad niggling details, that derail it.
