What did you do to your non-G body project today? [2022]

I did the self mandated K&N filter swap, removed a old man spot mirror that was in a bad spot on the passenger side mirror, setup the XM & blue tooth on the new truck.
Might want to wash the K&N and get a different filter oil. They are known to take out the Duramax MAF sensors.

I helped a buddy change injectors on his. Never again.🤣
In comparison to what I just did that's a drop in a bucket. Now I'm changing the injector return lines.
Well I still have that 1:1 model kit in the garage that needs finished. Thanks, I was lucky to find a near copy of the '14 with low/fair miles.
I'd rather build the model

Good to know what kind of oil?
Still friends?
I told a buddy of mine I'd rather him run me over with his diesel than ask me to work on it.
That's about the reaction I get when I ask for help

Well a friend of mine was supposed to bring a camera by tonight so while it was running we could look for where the diesel in the valley was coming from. He came by but with no camera. So I started ripping it apart anyway to do the return lines I don't have. I think it was a bad idea but if I don't work on it then I'm not showing progress. So now I'll need to change the returns and put it back together enough to make it run so I can start it and look for leaks. I'm sure I'll be taking it apart a 3rd time maybe even a 4th at the rate I'm going. I really wish I didn't spend so much money on it already or I'd just have it towed to a diesel mechanic.... If I could find a diesel mechanic that actually works on the Duramax without an unlimited budget. They seam to be nonexistent. It's funny 2 months ago I had people telling me it's not that bad to do and it's easy it's just nuts and bolts. Not one of them came with even advice on this thing. Much like all the people who say put an ls in everything it's cheap. There's a frase to describe those people full of sh*t! Nothing is cheap or easy if you actually want it to be right when it's done and not a refugee from a junkyard. Sorry guys I'm just a little bit bitter tonight I'm friggin over it and I'd like to move on with my life. I think I'm going to go watch Lauren at band practice for the last half hour to clear my head.

Yea it's definitely frustrating. Just have to find the subject matter expert on it.

I say LS is cheap because I've done several dozen over the last 15 years. I have a refined process not the stuff that nickel and dimes you, then again, subject matter expert.

95% of people are all talk when it comes down to the nitty gritty, they won't be there. Hopefully you can get some good help and figure out what it is.

The K&N brand oil has been know to nuke sensors on Duramax trucks. I was told AFE, S&B, AFR or Banks oil and no issues. I'd trust Banks, they seem to be top dog for quality on everything they make.

Granted it's been quite a few years since I was deep in the diesel game so maybe K&N fixed their blend.

Also, know you're absolutely not wanting to think ahead to the camaro, but, this thing is about 3-4 hours west of here.

I'm also sure it's not rebuildable.

If you want to look into it, like what you hear, and the guy will pull and load the engine into the barn doors on the yukon, well, I've got some wooden shorty skids and a junk 14" radial to donate to the cause that will fit onto the weather tech behind the 3rd row.

Getting it to jersey when we're thinking of coming up mid September for the big e might be possible

Tonight I repinned the O2 sensors and the car was much happier, but still threw the O2 heater codes. I began to suspect I'd repinned those back in 2014 and that suspicion turned out to be correct.

Those are the heater control wires for the front O2s and the rears had been moved to the fronts. Yep, that definitely explains why it threw those codes in every form imaginable. On the test drive I got it fully up to temp, threw 2nd nice and sporty like and it hopped all the way through (need tires BAD), and it was smooth as silk the whole way through the rev range. Used to shake like Hell, clutch balance was money well spent. Torque Tube is silent now as well. So this all seems like a slam dunk so far, going to drive it to work tomorrow to characterize its condition better and tweak the old to do list. But it's safe to say this rig is back in my rotation as a driver as soon as I get some tires under it. This is a bit surreal for me as it's been crippled for so d@mn long now.
