Oh..oh...😱 this sounds problematic....Just try to back track your steps to see if you didn't put something back properly..or left something off. Let us know what you come up with.
Good luck!

I found this on the internet..it's a later year but the wiper motor is the same

"The fix turned out to be easy in my case:

I bought a CD version of the 1992 service manual, and read the wiper section thoroughly, especially the diagnostic table. That table says that when the wipers won't shut off, the cause is most likely a defective park switch. But, my reading of other forum postings suggests that the problem is not really a bad park switch itself, but rather a corrosion deterioration of the electrical contact between the park switch and the motor assembly.

Early this morning, I unplugged the "Park switch" wiring plug from the driver side of the motor assembly, cleaned the terminals in it a bit, and plugged it back in. The wipers now shut off properly.

This weekend, I plan to do a more thorough cleaning of BOTH the plug and the receptacle on the motor assembly, using some tiny tool with electrical contact cleaner on it, then coat it generously with dielectric grease (to "waterproof" and protect from further corrosion) and plug it back in. Then, apply more dielectric grease to the exterior of the "joint" where the plug plugs into the motor assembly. Hopefully, that will protect it a bit better.

It appears the underlying problem is that water gets into that plug / motor assembly interface, and corrodes the contacts until the electrical contact is no longer sufficient to work.

Note that my fix did NOT require taking the lid off the motor assembly, but merely unplugging the EXTERNAL wiring plug to the park switch that is mounted inside the motor assembly."

thank you Pontiacgp, that seems like a great idea! I got the haynes book just a week ago and i printed out the electrical diagram for the windshield wipers 🙂 . I hope a friend and I figure it out, I'll update you guys after i'm done. 😉

NOTE! My windshield wipers will park! (and then get up again slowly) but only when its on the middle position where it says "delay" right next to "off". they will only park (and repark slowly not shut off completely but delayed by 5-6 secs) if i turn the key all the way off and then to run.
If i start to move the switch between mist, off and low high it will no longer park at all, unless i restart the key....

Good luck, Hakon,
Let us know how you make out.

Ok guys, a friend and I took apart the dash and have access to the switch (we didn't take it apart) we also took out all the different plugs on the wiper motor assembly, I did not find the plug that was specifically for the wiper parking. We learned that the wiper motor clicks a lot indicating that it wants to park while in the middle position, but that it only parks if i restart the ignition key. (it will still not completely shut of) it also seems as though the longer we wait the less likely the wipers are to park, but rather just stay on without parking.

We quit when we started to consider to take apart the wiper motor assembly (the black box). How do we take this apart without destroying anything, is there anything to pay attention to, and is the relay inside there? i added a picture, note that the fluid pump plug is not in use, but rather modified to go directly to a new pump (this works fine as mentioned before). Also the red cable gets very hot after a while, maybe this causes bad parking?.... 12204702_10206746616841316_156904022_n.jpg

I once had a similar problem and from the factory manual deduced that the parking relay was bad. (when shut off it would just stop wherever it was) What happens is that when you turn off the wipers, the electrically operated cam inside directs the gears to the park position and the park relay keeps the motor running until they park and when there a mechanical switch then shuts it all down. There are several things that can keep this from working properly and you need to get inside to check things out but it is not very user friendly. I would suggest just getting a junkyard or used unit or a rebuilt unless you have a manual to guide you and a curious nature.

Bonnewagon, well I'm curious of my new car but its an annoying and boring problem. The wipers will park, the mechanical parking works, but shutting the wipers off doesn't. The wipers park when in delay (middle position, delay turned all the way to the left) it will park and restart, so i'm confident that the parking function whether electric or mechanical works.. seems to me like an electrical problem.
if I had the chance I would buy spare parts of course, however i'm not fortunate enough to have that privilege, there are no Malibu, caprice etc. spare parts for miles.. at least not for sale or in a junkyard. I went to the junkyard recently to get VW parts for a friend, i saw 2 american cars, a Chevy Astro and GMC equivalent completely crushed in the middle of a pileup of cars.. :/

from what I see in your picture, you have an after market unit that does not have a circuit board. I bought a cheap unit once and that's how the delay worked, it would park the wipers instead of stopping them during delay mode and when it went bad it wouldn't shut off at all when turned on.

Interesting, Onehit, how can you be sure though? all the functions of the switch worked fine 3 days ago, now everything kinda works when i restart the ignition key, except for turning the wipers off of course 🙁 . Can anyone confirm that i do not have the original unit? 12207822_10206746617081322_1342895788_n.jpg

Ooops, sorry man, just saw you were in Norway! In that case if it is a factory unit then I guess you will need to take it apart and investigate. The cover is held on by a stud and it pops right off. I have a factory Pontiac manual so I can help troubleshoot if you want. It seems like you have "condition #5"- blades cycle in and out of park position when wiper is shut off- wiper has both low and high speed. Solution- replace park relay. If that is not the correct symptom then test and document all conditions and I will see what else applies. Also, did this only start after you replaced the washer pump?
