the barrel dropped to under $100 today....wonder what excuse they'll use not to drop the gas price accordingly.. :?

The US dollar has been dramiatically devaluing, THAT is the main reason why gas prices are going up. OPEC will only accept payment for oil in the US Dollar, not the Yen, Yuan, EU etc...
Even if the price of a barrel goes down the value of the dollar drops considerably more thus requiring more US Dollars to obtain the same product.

Heck, Canadians drive over the border just to fill up.

Just keep buying Chineese crap and shopping at Walmart everyone... before you know it you'll be paying for things in the Yuan. Banks around me already offer Yuan bank accounts... pretty scary huh?
It boils down to being nothing but our own fault, question that next time you go and vote for some bipartisan ******* who wants a few million in his pocket to sell out his own country for a few billion...

Also, the EPA won't let Shell drill in Alaska this summer so there's 4 billion lost in their pockets and thus the law of supply and demand take in effect...

Yup. "We paid X for this oil so we have to charge Y" and then it's " We will have to pay Z to replace this oil, so we need to charge Y". It's never in out favor, ever. Great point 88hurstolds. At one time we made stuff the world clamored for. Now we buy disposable crap that breaks first time you use it. Not me. I am still using tools my Grandpa handed down. I go out of my way to buy American. We're pretty stupid. The whole rest of the world taxes the crap out of imports except us. So you save a few bucks on that imported POS Widget, but then American Widget makers go bankrupt, and the workers end up on welfare, and your taxes go up. Brilliant.

IMO IMO IMO IMO!!!!!

This is just my opinion, I have no facts, I've done no research, and have not witnessed this,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ever!
Every two years we have elections to install some of our polititians to represent us in Washington. Two years later we have another election to elect a President and the remaining polititians to represent us in Washington.
I feel the only way we can get these polititians to represent the PEOPLE of this country is to kick the incumbents out of office every two years and keep doing it until they start working for the PEOPLE and NOT the corporations. There are a very few that do a good job (VERY FEW!) but we must stick to the plan (the very few would be collateral damage) in order to get them to work for us!!!
It should make no difference what party you prefer or what party the incumbents are, kick them out of office! This should work for local, state, and federal positions.
As I said, this is just my opinion!

Doug

it use to be in Britain that a politician worked in the government for 6 months and was not paid and they worked for the people they represented because after 6 months he became one of the people while another took his 6 month stint in government....the politicians of the past have devised a system that benefits only them and the current batch.. and if they get someone who want to do what's right that politician won't last. I have said for years the players wont change the game...the game itself has to change and what we need on the ballot is a "none of the above" option to show our true opinion of the system. I refuse to vote to allow the politicians to use my vote to say I affirm the system. It's the system itself that I detest, the politicians are only playing the game to keep themselves alive and living well ...

That's an interesting point you brought up 88hurst. I have been looking into 'the world currency'. Currently it's the American dollar. For those of you that don't know, you should google about the world currency.

From my understanding, oil is purchased in world currency. So if some overseas country wants to buy oil, they have to convert their currency over to the world currency (US dollar) and pay the people that sell the oil in that currency. They then bring the oil/gas back to their country, convert the price for it back to their currency, and then charge the average consumer for it. I guess that is why gas is so 'cheap' in the US compared to all other countries.

There is a TON of news buzz about changing the world currency, most likely to the Yuan or something new called the Bankor. If/when that were to happen, gas prices and the price of a lot more stuff in the US would go through the roof. That would effectively make the us dollar worthless. Ever notice that there's a ton of places popping up that will buy your gold? Why do you think that is? There's a reason they call gold, silver, etc... "God's currency".

Then again, every time I think about American money and the 'Federal' Reserve I get pissed off. Our money isn't even worth the paper it's printed on. If the world's currency changes, America will be screwed.

Don't even get me started! I'm so disgusted by the direction the country is headed. The only reason I like reading internet news is to see the comments posted. Good to know that we're not alone in our anger.

I often wonder if US residents will reach a breaking point as well. We're getting squeezed from every direction right now and people are getting fed up.

here in Canada we have the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world....so why the F are we paying over $5.00 a gallon when in Caracas in Venezuela it's $0.12..... :?

How many are starting to see the effects of oil on other products around their towns? I have noticed a steady increase in the prices of produce around here and other food stuffs (heck a can of SPAM costs more than $3 and that is at the canned food store where stuff is cheaper). Around here there is no public transit at all no buses, trains or even cabs. The nearest decent size city is a good 3 hours away.
