Selling Things...

Or when I post a pic of my aerocoupe on one of the various facebook groups im apart of and I get flooded with the "wanna SALE that?" comments or dumb ****s that think I will sell a part off of my car. Sure let me just SALE you the center console lid out of my running, driving, completed, restored car.

Its a pet peeve of mine when people misuse the words SALE and SELL if you guys can't tell.....

One thing I have noticed as of late is ******* sellers that expect you to drive 2+ hours to look at their car while they refuse to send more pics. I talked to a guy about a 71 Monte Carlo 2 hours from me. No pic in the ad, I ask for pics and I get the "serious buyers will come and look at it". I said no one is going to drive that far to check out a car they can't see beforehand. He got lippy so I sent him a pic of the cash he was asking for in my hand with a caption of "have a nice day".

Also had one last week with an 85 cutlass that had one pic in the ad with the closing sentence of "text for more info and pictures". I text him for more info and some more pictures and he says I will have to come and look at it.

I enjoy flagging their ads.

That's the best thing I've ever heard. That's also why I waste ZERO time with people that don't post quality pictures.

I almost sold my wagon just before I took it apart. I was looking at another Monte SS that was all the way up in the western corner of VT. In the pictures it looked decent. It was a CL ad. Original owner. We all know how this goes.
I called the guy and asked him for specific photos. Both sides, under the hood, a clear photo of the interior showing the dash and the bottoms of both doors. He said he would do it the next day and email them to me
All night I waited for the photos. Nothing. I check CL the next day and he added a couple of photos that were taken inside his garage looking down the side of the car. Not what I needed. I called the guy that night. I told him I had at least a 7 hour drive one way. I was borrowing my old car trailer but since my truck is a dog my buddy was towing it up with his Excursion. He was taking the day off to do this for me. Gas, tolls. It was going to be a long day. I needed him to back the car out and spend 20 minutes taking a few pics and shooting me an email before I spend 15-17 hours and a lot of money. He refused.
He told me if I come up I'll buy the car. Its that nice. I told him to stick the car up his *ss and hung up on him. THATS why I still own my wagon. In my mind I made a good choice. LOL

Seen ad on CL a while back with a malibu front bench seat. Looked nice. Two pics that were basically the same pic. Good price. About an hour and a half drive. The ad was put up that day. In the ad though seller stated he was going to haul away to land fill if not sold that day. Strange I thought. No contact info, just the spot that you click to email.

I emailed him and said I was very interested and asked if tracks were still on it and for pic of back. Gave him my phone number for contacting. He emailed me back through cl and said back was in good shape and tracks still attached.

So I emailed back and said if he could meet me halfway I would throw in some extra cash for his time and gas. We could meet at a public place. He says he doesn't do this email thing back and forth. So again I gave him my phone number.

About 45 min go by and he emailed again through cl. I already put seat on trailer for land fill. And again says he doesn't do email. So I say next time put up some contact info and better pics or give someone your info. Also ask him why he posted ad and only a few hrs later, same day, he is hauling off?

He emailed a long story about his son killing himself after being in Iraq and his other son being killed by a drunk driver. That I didn't know how it felt to have tragedy with my kids. I told him I was sorry for his loss, but I have two sons, one of which is disabled some. So I do know bad things. And that this son would be enjoying car also. Then said thanks. No reply. He was a little strange to me...

I absolutely HATE that!!! You know what else grinds my gears? Misusing THEN & THAN and YOUR & YOU'RE. There are others but those I see pretty often and it drives me crazy.

nothing really new about buyers, years ago when we raced G bodies we would try to sell interiors, dashs, light housings, wiring harnesses, heater boxes, windows, engines, trannys, etc. The prices were well below the common price these parts usually sold for. We got the calls but guys wouldn't show up or they'd show up a few weeks later after the stuff was gone and the ones who did show up they'd cry about the asking prices. All we wanted was to get money for chicken wings and beer

I am waiting for the "Buying Things..." thread to appear packed full of the "Glenns" offering their poorly spelled counterpoints to this thread.

Anyone notice that there are only 10-15 active members posting in this thread? Bet there are a bunch of Glenns lurking.

David,
I can't understand people like that. Of course you sympathize with him for his loss, but why bother even advertising an item for sale if you have no intentions of selling it, or answering pertinent questions to a potential buyer...
Sounds like he's dealing with deep rooted psychological problems. He'd rather dump the part into the landfill than make a few bucks on it...screwball!

Facebook/internet era, people expect instant gratification. I guess they think everyone is sitting around waiting for their item to come up for sale. I still remember the days of newspaper and autotrader, it could be a week before your ad went into people's hands.
