Swapped out the original 7.5" for a Monte SS 3.73 Posi. Anybody know what the stock V6 gear ratio would be in a 79 Malibu Coupe? Seemed snappier with the original rear??? 6.0L LQ4/4L80E combo now.
Something like 2.29 to 2.56, somewhere in that neighborhood.

I cleaned it at 5am, went to Coffee & Cars, it rained on the way home, so I cleaned it again. I went to (4) shows this weekend in (20) hours. Show / GTG's are year round in Houston. It was 76 degrees today.

Which kit did you use? Your calipers sit higher than with the LS1 setup, and your shocks bolted right in to the stock location.

I ordered the kit from inline tube. Went on super easy. Only thing I don't care for is the parking brake cables. Obviously I have not got a chance to try them out but I'd give it a 9 out of 10 so far.

For 1979 in a Malibu coupe or sedan, 2.73 would be the axle in a 3.3 or 3.8 application, with the exception of the 3.8 in high altitude trim, which used a 3.23 axle.

When you can, would you show some detail photos of the p-brake cables? I will be grafting the LS1s into the G-body cable and am always on the lookout for some R&D [rip-off and duplicate] information.

i made the parking brake cable brackets that i found here, on this forum, for my ls1 rear brake upgrade. instead of making the small "L" brackets that connect the cable to the parking brake lever i used parking brake cable connectors from mid 70s gm cars. sorry, no pics of actual car at this time, its in storage. but i was able to put about 2000 miles on the set up. no complaints in its performance. joe

Yep, that's a prime example of R&D. Thanks to LSCustom for making the original design/drawing for all of us to use!

yes, thanks to his efforts, it works amazingly. i used the factory gbody cables. as much a i love having a parking brake lever mounted between the seats, i didn't have the energy to mount one there. the pedal type work just fine.

Here are a couple of pics for reference. Please note, the lever in the pic is from an S10 blazer and is merely used as an example. The ls1 lever is longer and fits much better. I did pinch one end of the connector that sits over the lever so it it would not pull thru. I also added a brace to the long "L" bracket so it would not bend if the parking brake was applied to hard.
